I sold a double cd which was in absolute perfect condition and took photos of the discs. As we now live in a digital age we actually took a copy of the cds and they are stored on our hard drive. The auction states that no returns are accepted. I posted immediately and have had a message today from the buyer saying that track 18 on the disc skips repeatedly and they want a refund on this basis, and also if I want the cd back to send a name and address to them.
I think they are trying it on because it was fine when we sent it. The cd is actually quite collectable so could they be trying to replace one of theirs with our good copy.
What should I do?
Thanks Tiger x

If they open a paypal dispute item not as described they will win. They will be told to return the item tracked (at there own expense) for a full refund. If i was you I would offer them a refund if they return the item. They may decide that by the time they pay the cost of return its not worth there while. If they disagree they can go the paypal route and will be told the same thing
They could be telling the truth though as ome CDs will jump on some players but not on others,0 -
Thankyou very much for your quick reply. We have messaged back and said that we will accept a return and would like the item sent back recorded delivery and then upon receipt of the item we will refund.
What happens if the cd comes back and it isn't in the same condition as it left. Or is it just a lesson learned. We are new to selling cds on Ebay but have sold a lot of other things and have never have had a problem.

You can try and argue with Paypal that it isnt the original. Ive never heard of anyone doing that with CDs though. All you can do is see what happens.0 -
How much money are we talking about for a CD here?
Perhaps it's their CD player? I have a CD that works on one player, but skips like crazy on another!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
or more likely, as we live in a digital age - they've copied it to their hard-drive and now they don't need it so think they may as well scam you for a refund! No, Mr A, that is NOT 'Great news'!!

Wombling totals: Oct = £243.32 - £93.32 over target!
Nov Wombling Tally: £27.36 so far... behind target

I have thought all these things myself. Got a bit of a snotty reply back last night from then. Saying basically that paypal would require them to send the cd back anyway so they are doing is a favour by not going through Paypal!!
They are going to send the cd back today! It maybe does skip on theirs but I will be checking it when it comes back, not that there will be much I could do!
The cd is worth about £40 and it sold for £20 with lots of interest from other bidders. It is eligible for a second chance offer but I'm not sure I would want to do that incase it skips again on someone elses player, would you put it in for a second chance offer?
Thanks for your replies

Yes, exactly. This happens a lot on eBay, particularly with vinyl. Some rare releases, particularly dance music, are often only available in that format, so buyers will make a copy of the song on MP3 (losing a lot of the warm analogue sound in the process!), and then they will complain about the record quality. That's why you have to be so careful in your description - and even then, they can just scratch the record and send it back! eBay just isn't what it used to be and these things do happen.
Another common scam these days is when buyers lodge an "undelivered item" dispute with PayPal despite having taken delivery of said item. It is difficult to prove that the item was delivered, even with proof of postage, as the buyer can always claim someone nicked it from their postbox. PayPal seem to favour the buyer more than the seller, in my experience.0 -

If it works ok on a couple of your players I would probably relist if you think the price would be better than 2nd chance.
Oh I suggest you put this buyer on your blocked bidders list0 -
Hi Cyberbob, I will check it on all of my players, we have a few and see what happens!
Will definitely be blocking them!
Thanks again xxMarried the most amazing man 05/12/09 and it was the best day ever, I'm a Mrs, he he!!:jWins 2009: Peroni Alessi bowl woohoo, 1 in 10 wins DVD from Maltesers, Avon lippy!!!Freebies-Bold Gel, CoffeePinecone Research - £9Mystery Shopping - £150 -
Well, the buyer has sent back the cd and the disc which they said does not play is scratched. It certainly wasn't sent like that, so I think they haver swapped the disc with one of theirs. I have looked at the photos we have and it is a different disc. I am supposed to be giving them a refund, but will wait until OH gets home, but I'm guessing I will have to give them it as has been said here paypal will probably favour them! I am so mad that people do things like this, but nevermind, it's done now!
