    Thank you Bunnie1982

Admittedly a lot of the stuff I bought in March went into the freezer so at least it's stocked up nicely. This month I am trying the advice on OS about freezing bread and milk. We actually use long life soya milk so got lots of that already and we have just started making our bread and freezing it.

I am hoping these small changes will helps us not go into the shop which is my big downfall. Seems to be working so far :D

It's amazing what you pick up on these boards :T
    Leason learnt
  • There is one thing though we should mention, everyone's diet in different. I see a lady nibbles in fruit and nuts as a snack, for me I'd be nibbling nuts all day! Here's a basic day of what I eat just so you have an idea:

Breakfast- 2 weetabix and sugar, a banana, cup of tea and a 2 pieces of toast
Snacks at work - 2 packets of crisps, 2 pieces of fruit, a cheesestring, 2-3 mini rolls/biscuits/caskes
Lunch- Sandwiches with 4 pieces of bread, crisps, fruit, a salad, can of coke.
Evening meal- Hot pot (3 bowls of) with 4-5 giant HM dumplings. Pudding- HM apple pie/cheesecake/choc cake/ Will easily eat half the cake, all of the cake during the course of the evening if OH doesn;t want any.
Watching telly- bowl of ice cream, an easter egg, cheese and biscuits, some grapes, some Cheerio's/milk.
Before bed- Hot choc/horlicks using half a pint of milk.

Now tell me when you eat this much (not just me, partner too) how you can spend £25? I've done it begrudgingly when serisouly skint, but Ive been miserable and spent most of the week opening and re-opening the same cupboards/fridge as if something would magically appear!

PS. For those people who are visualising me a 30 stone woman, I'm not Im 5ft 11 and weight 62kg (just over 9.2stone, and 2 lbs of that are my breast implants! lol) with a BMI of 19. Cant put weight on for love nor money, used to spend £20 a week in crash weight gain powder, even had the contraceptive injection cos I heard people put on weight with it! No such luck!

    Cor blimey Miss K!!

Thats a LOT of food. Im a scoffer, dont get me wrong, but I would eat, maybe a quarter of that ( still have the 2 bags of crisps though..!!) :money:
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

That is quite a lot. My almost brother in law can eat no end of chocolate and other foods and yet he remains able to hide behind lamp posts. Different people process food at a different rate.....I'm obviously a very slow one.

Miss K I have a friend who was underweight like you and ate a lot and she managed to put on over a stone with a Boots own brand build up powder which she took each night and she looks fab on it!

I know it is completely irrelevant to money saving but have you had your thyroid checked? Could be a reason why you're not putting on weight.

To be honest I am eating fruit and nuts now, but crisps and coke are my weakness, I can eat and eat and drink and drink. I am trying so hard not to, but I am sure there is something addictive in them both.

loopyloulou - i spend around £35 per week on just food, that is for me and four kids. we eat very well on this but i do spend a lot of time in the kitchen lol.

went to the butchers yesterday and bought mince and sausages for £4.60. with the mince i made 3 lasagnes. it has taken me a long time to get my shopping bill this low. the three boys at school are intitled to free school dinners but only one of them will eat them...the other two i send in with a lunchbox.

for dinner tonight we are having HM lasagne and a salad, and HM rhubarb crumble for pudding (although i dont make puddings everyday) i am sure you can get your shopping bill lower than you spend, but it might take a little time to get there.

  • Yeah Ive had my thyroid checked and its fine. My mother thinks I have Huntington's Disease (nowt like being dramatic!!) because it's commonly connected with heart problems and I have a pacemaker/chronic heart condition and I have problems with energy-I'm only 20 but can't stay awake past 5pm, being underweight and a high calories diet is a classic symtpom and forgetfullness, which I have a problem with (completely forgot the first day of term on monday!). Still, Huntington's diease is a bit dramatic, and we have no family history.

I've managed to stabilise my weight, at least I'm not losing it anymore, but I have to maintain this diet. No joke, if I had 1 maybe 2 days where I halved my intake, the weight would drop off me. I eat this much because I was getting sick of my mum/in law keep saying 'Oh my word look how thin you are, hear have a biscuit'. For those who wish they could eat all this and not put on weight, its no laughing matter when people gossip that you're anorexic/bullimic and all the clothes you buy hang off you. Had to spend £2,000 on a boob job abroad just to feel slightly more normal!

Still, not really relevent I guess. The point is, some people like my mother in law, skip breakfast, nibble on a few raisins for snack, have a tiny plate for dinner and maybe one chocolate at night time. If we all ate like that £25 a week would be easy! Some have bigger appetites than others!
  • How do you all manage to spend only £25 I spend about £500 a month sometimes more I have 2 kids one is a 16 year old who grazes day in day out . What is Old Style thread and where do I find it please. This is my first post I need a litle help LOL in many ways.
    Thanks Chrissie x

Just giving up diet coke ( which was my only other addiction apart from the fags, never thought it would be possible...) saved me somewhere in the ballpark region of £750 a year ( conservative estimate)

I feel SO much better for it as well!!
