100% yes. In our house there is only myself an my OH. My budget is £100 per month or £50 every couple of weeks. As you can see from my signature I am keeping to this. I have also started to put any money that I haven't spent into a savings pot. This is month 3 that I've done this....and I've already got £90 saved up. I wonder if my budget is too high?Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Erm, Yes, Im fairly sure it is, Im getting there, slowly but surely.
Before I joined here I was spending 75 a week for 2.
Now, see my sig, were getting there :T:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I would say so. I allow £20 per week for me and a boyf that stays around a lot. Take a look at the Old Style thread for lots of ideas on how to cut down. That has helped me loads! Went from spending £40 per week to £20 per week.

you're a braver woman than I! Sarahsaver notoriously feeds a family of four on £20 a week and you can get some tips from her over on the old style board, however she is much practiced at this whereas you will be virtually halving your shopping bill in one month.
I think it really depends on your circumstances - do you have the opportunity to travel to budget supermarkets (Lidl, netto, aldi are rarely conveniently situated) trawling for bargains, to go to markets, etc. I work full time and live in london and so the best i can manage is going to the market on sat morn for my veg.
I originally set myself a budget of £50 a week for two of us, over the months i have got that down to £35. If you have the ability to do this then i would recommend that you cut down your food budget over a couple of months. The May grocery challenge will be starting over on the old style board this week, you can post there for some support and tips.

I live in London as well, work full time, not taking advantage of Aldi/ netto cos we dont have a car and tescos or morrisons are the only ones on a bus route really, and we are still doing it without MUCH trouble. The other day when I painted the kitchen, i turned the fridge plug off, so we lost a bit of food, and I was gutted. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? May is the first month that I'm trying to stick to a budget for food - I've set mine at £100 per month. That's just for me and my boyfriend who is here quite a lot- he does contribute too. I'd say slow and steady at first, I know some people will think this is a lot just for me but I don't want to start slipping half way through the month and then just give up entirely. Good luck! :T0

thanks all
im gonna go for it! my Oh may not be that pleased when he sees the netto bags!0 -
Oh and of course... use up. as we were spending 75pw ( and that was the "big shop" only not the little bits we NEEDED here and there) there was actually quite a lot of food in the house, loads of rice, pasta , cous cous, ingredients for baking etc, untouched. So using up is great money saving! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Hide the bags and he'll never know. Besides over time my OH has really gotten into the moneysaving lark. He knows my budget and will help me to stick to it. He doesn't care whether its branded or now...whether its M&S or Aldi / Netto....as long as it tastes good.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
