Could it be in an endorsement on the certificate??

It should be quickly sorted out by the OP contacting them and asking for the explanation.

If the OP contacted More Than by telephone to add her son then she should ask for transcripts of the calls.

    Debbie,

Were you charged any extra for adding your son to the Policy?

Son was on the policy as a provisional driver. The Op then called then and told them he had passed his test.
I got my son insured for my car - he is 18, as a named driver both when he was a learner and also when he passed his test 6 weeks ago. The policy is fully comp, he is the only named driver, no other cars in household.

He had an accident which was his fault, the other car write off my car un driveable - the Insurance Company are now saying that because he was in the car not accompanied by someone over the age of 25 and/or becuase he was under 25 - and passengers were 17 yrs old - that the claim will not be paid.

I cannot understand this as he is a named driver and no mention of this previously only when he was a learner which goes without saying.

They appear to think of him as still a learner and being unaccompanied at the time of the accident.
I agree they would ask for an addition premium at the time they were notified he had past his test as the risk of him having and accident has increased.

Most Insurers do not charge an extra premium when you pass your test, its only the minority who do.

  • Hi, just want to thank everyone for their comments.

What a nightmare with More Than! Went to bed last night thinking of all the implications of them refusing claim.

Accident happened Sat night, reported claim Sunday, was advised to ring Tuesday re progress.

When i did they advised me that claim was being investigated, when i queried why i was told that because my son did not have anyone in the car with him with a full licence?! I advised that my son had a full licence, then i was advised it was because he was under 25 also.

I did explain that he was a named driver so fully insured and my policy clearly stated this.

Again i was advised to call today.

After being fobbed off today i was finally put through to investigation dept who wanted to know if car was registered in my name, they needed proof of both our driving licences, log book, asked if the car was financed and if my son was main driver.

Explained that it was my car, i the main driver, car reg in my name etc.

Have now been advised that claim has been passed for settlement!

The info given at what i presume was the call centre was totally incorrect - that would mean no one under the age of 25 who have passed their test could drive alone or without someone else with a full licence in with them?!

It would appear though that they thought my son was main driver of the car and log book in his name - and i had taken out the insurance in my name to avoid high premium for my son.

My advice to anyone who gets insurance in their name and log book for car in their sons/daughters beware. As i assume that if this was the case the claim would be refused.
