You would need to be sure the other features of the phone suit you as well as the camera capabilities. I have a Viewty and hate it, it doesn't pick up the signal nearly as well as a previous phone, the 300 limit on texts drives me mad, I can't save email attachments as I had been led to believe, there are no games with it, not even solitaire for those boring train journey moments, gmail was impossible - doesn't support ssl (I had to search the net to find a way of doing it ) you can't listen to the radio without headphones, you can't change the quick start menu, you have to do far too many click throughs to get anywhere, you can't transfer texts to pc without a really strange way around, it locks during calls so if you have to click on number keys while on an automated call you have to keep unlocking first, or while checking voicemails - and now my screen has bleached out so you can't see it.

But yes, the camera is great!!

Thanks DS, I'll probably steer clear of the Viewty then, I know I said I wanted a decent camera but I still want the phone to work as well. I've been looking at the Samsung G600 or U900 Has anyone any comments on either of these phones?
    thanks guys Jen

I bought my Nokia 6220 Classic purely because I needed the outstanding 5MP camera. It's also got GPS and 3G plus all the usual music and other stuff. No WiFi.

Downside is its pathetic looks and build quality. When you hold it in your hand it's like one of the rubbish cheapest-possible ones they give you at work. The plastic is creaky and unquality. Actually I don't care about looks but lots of people do.

The images and video are just brilliant though, really good and easily sufficient as casual use camera, posting pics and video of your mates on facebook and all that. The phone otherwise performs not too bad either, works fine as satnav too after I put Garmin software on it or I believe TomTom also works.

Having tried Sony k810i 3.2mp, Nokia n95 (5mp) and now LG Cookie 3.2mp - the Sony was the best and still is even with 3.2 compared to the 5mp in the nokia.

The cybershot camera just is the tops for me - so if you want a decent camera get a sony one.

I did do some research a year or so go on the net and discovered some web pages comparing cameras on the nokia and sony phones and again it was the sony coming out better in the examples I found.

Hve a good browse around that site. It's always my first port of call when upgrading.

Incidentally, I have the SE C905, great camera and good quality phone into the bargain, but if you prefer Samsung the look at that site.

Don;t expect a 5MP to give you better pictures than a 3Mp - the snap holds more data, but the contrast and colour is dependent on the LENS, and whether it has a good range of apetures, auto focus and the like. My Nokia 3Mp takes incredibly good pictures and better than my 5Mp Samsung. However, NONE of them compare to my decixated 7Mp SLR which wipes the floor.

It's not the size that counts, but how the manufacturers use it! :)

Thanks Buzby, was about to say the same. You can have a 12MP camera for all it matters but if its made from a crummy lens then it doesn't matter a jot.

The best Samsung phone I've used for pictures is the Pixon, although you don't say if you want it sim free or contract or indeed a budget for it.

Thanks for all your comments guy's thats why I love this website, its so friendly and everyone wants to help you.
I am currently loong at the mobile-phones-uk website. There are a lot of good deals to look through. I've been looking at the phones I like the look at and then going onto the review site to check them out. This seemed like a good idea at the time, however every phone I've looked at has some bad points that put me off. lol.
Just had a look at the SE C905 barebear, it seems like good phone, might be worth considering.
Oh wouldn't life be easier if we could have them for a weeks trial before buying!
I am considering a contract phone if the monthly charge is below £20. therwise I may just buy a new (or second hand ) phone and keep my virgin sim.
