we are doing a kitchen of similar size for £500, buying cabinets from e-bay (new), doors from B&Q, handles from Ikea, getting the plaster to skim walls once kitchen out, I do the tiling.0

Good for you - yes I am sure it can save an absolute fortune if you can do it yourself.
Had a local , personally recommended joiner to the flat today and he reckoned getting the kitchen from Howdens it would come in around £1000 and 3 days work for him plus the tiling, so I am hoping that that will come in somewhere below my £3000 budget.
(I didn't tell him what my budget was, although I told him that I have one - never sure if that is a good idea or not!)
Good luck with your project.0 -

It always a good idea to tell them you have a budget, but not reveal it, it then gives them something to think about when pricing up as they don't know how high to go. I hate it when customers do that to meIf it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Thought I had this sorted in my mind that I was going with a Howden's kitchen but have now had a joiner who uses Crosby Kitchens (of Sheffield?) round to quote
Anyone used these kitchens and how do they compare to Howden's quality? Joiner says that they are flat pack but they have better hinges and have slow closing doors as standard - surely Howdens would be better quality being rigid units wouldn't they.?
Thanks in advance for any advice.0 -
Well, I had hoped that the next time I posted under this heading I would be posting pictures of my daughter's new kitchen but it has not even started yet.
Can someone in the know please confirm whether the following is the case . The all trades company that I had decided to go with sent in a reasonable estimate , not the cheapest, and not covering everything that we had discussed. Each time I pointed something out and said "Is that in the estimate" it didn't seem to be and kept being added on. They had arranged for a man to come from Howdens to measure up but when I asked to see the plan they said that I had to agree to taking the kitchen before Howdens would even let them see the plan!
This seems a very back to front way of doing things is it not - agreeing to something that you haven't had the chance to inspect? I got so fed up with the whole thing that I said I wasn't happy to do that and forget it.
Back to square one - no idea even how much the kitchen/ labour costs broke down as the company gave me an all in price for the whole job (around £3500 including VAT).0 -

What a load of rubbish
How can you check the kitchen meets your needs if you dont get a plan?
When i ask Howdens to design, they meet the the customer at there home, Take the dimensions and show styles then either post or email the plans and impressions, Unless your trade you will never get any prices of Howdens, These are passed to the installerHi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
