Own brands shampoo - waste of money or what?

Options
I've just bought Sainsbury's own brand (not basic) shampoo for coloured hair and I find it incredibly watery! It was on a 'BOGOF' offer so I thought I would be saving money! I first used Elvive, but thought it was expensive, but it lasted ages, this one I'm going though like water (pun intended!)

Has anyone else used own brands and found them ok, or am I just unlucky in this case?

PS Have bought the basics shower gel and find that ok!

  • i think it is just bad luck really. It will probably still lather up in your hair if you use the same amount as you would do with a thick one.

Best own brand shampoo bar none = Boots essentials. 97p for 300ml and it is basically Pantene- smells the same, gives same feeling after washing, very thick conditioner, just no fancy packaging! i think it actually is made in the same factory.

I usually hop between supermarket brands, usually Tesco, and then brand ones, as I have always been told it's best for your hair to use different ones, rather than sticking to the same shampoo all the time.

Brands put loads of foamers in shampoo, makes it look good. You don't need the foam it does nothing for the hair.

I find tesco's own coconut one was really nice and a bottle for about 70p lasted aaaages.

But alberto balsam is my favourite and always on offer somewhere, even at full price it's still only about 98p a bottle - lots of fruity flavours and leaves my hair lovely and soft!
  • I'm gutted...the only shampoo I have ever had that doesn't cause serious head falling off dandruff requiring six months of special shampoo from the doctor, is one from DHC that costs £9 a bottle  admittedly, it makes a ridiculous amount of foam, but it comes with a pump dispenser and a 5p blob does all my hair, which goes down to the middle of my back, I don't need to use conditioner afterwards and it even seems to boost my fine hair and make it shine.

Supermarket own brand are the worst for making my scalp so sore, even with rinsing and rinsing - it's almost as if they have put battery acid in them, if I use one for about a week.

So I'm too scared to change brands again whilst this one works.

    But &*$*£*£*£*£*£**£*£@( - it's expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tend to use Herbal Essences and stock up when it's on offer. I have tried LOADS of different shampoo and conditioner and just find that later in the day my hair looks greasy. That doesn't happen with Herbal Essences.

The only other one i've found that is almost as good is Morrison's own (in a yellow bottle) but I don't have a shop near me (well one was built and opened last week, but they don't stock it!) Next time i'm passing one i'll get some more as it makes my hair feel really soft.

I do try to alternate with other shampoo and conditioner and tend to use store brands when i'm staying at home that day. I have Asda's cherry and...something at the moment and it's ok.

Thanks for this - went in to have a sniff of this in Boots (it was right next to the Pantene for a quick comparison!) and discovered it was 2 bottles for £1.50 - had enough Boots points to buy them!!!

Just washed my hair and it feels great and vvvv shiny.
