OK, I'm going to try not to wash my hair every day as I know it just makes it even more oily. I am doing it every second day ATM but it's sooo greasy and horrible the second day I feel like putting a paper bag over my head!!!

I've tried Batiste dry shampoo and also hairspray (to absorb the oil) but no luck. Does anyone know of a product or tip I could try?

Thanks in advance. :o

Are you sure you are washing and rinsing properly?

sounds stupid I know, but DD's hair is always dull and greasy if not done right

I rinse it for at least 5 mins, while she moans at me:rotfl:

  • I am exactly the same, i have tried every product with mixed results. In the end i had my long locks cut to a managble length and resigned myself to washing it everyday. Batiste dry shampoo works for about 4 hours,, but the best thing was baby powder. However as a dark brunette, white hair at the roots wasn't a good look:(

  • I have the same problem so I really sympathise with you. These days I have resigned myself to washing my hair every day apart from sunday as I feel a state if I don't. Here are a few things that I do if I can't wash my hair..

Dry shampoo, it's not great but it is an improvement, I think it works best on messy styles.

Headband/headscarves - these are great for hiding sins if they suit your look.

Just washing fringe/front of hair. I used to do this quite alot as I find the front of my hair gets most greasy and is most noticeable. Just tie the rest of your hair back and wash in the sink it only takes a minute.

You could be overwashing your hair. So you strip the oil out and your scalp goes quick too dry. Most shampoos and conditioners have silcone in them to make the hair slip and that also could be doing it. Try using a natural brand and see what happens.
  • Hi. I have the same problem so I will pass on my experience to save you money!
First of all, I investigated mega expensive shampoos....the difference was minimal with regard to the greasiness problem but I do think they are excellent in other respects. I tried Aveda, Bed Head, Korres, Klorane, Toni and Guy and probably others that I've forgotten about. I swear my hair seems to grow faster with them. I'm possibly addicted. I love the smells, use them more thriftily, leave them to work for a few minutes before rinsing.......
I used to buy the cheapest shampoos available. And who knows I might go back to that one day. I would still appreciate anyone's tips for a shampoo that works on greasy hair.
Actually, I found that there are very few shampoos "for greasy hair" out there. Although I was in France last week and they had loads, in the pharmacies that is. I spent a lot of money in those places, that is tragic, but it beats rifling through French or any foreign clothes shops looking for the size 14's. That's another story!
Having found no remedy to the oily hair with expensive shampoos, I then tried seven different dry shampoos.....james brown, klorane, tigi rockaholic, angelfish, batiste, toni and guy, mark hill..............(My ideal job is to do things like this and get paid, rather than fork out my own dosh! But I do love to browse and buy beauty products)
My favourite is definitely klorane. You can buy it abroad or online for about £7....so a bit pricier than Batiste, but very effective. It's like a sandblaster, as opposed to a spray. It really does work. You might wonder if you'll ever bother washing your hair again!
Toni and Guy has a lovely fresh smell and probably comes second.
Now, you do have to follow the instructions and brush it out a little, if you have dark hair like me. Unfortunately, with all dry shampoos you run the risk of looking like you have gone grey overnight. Klorane is no exception. Bumble and Bumble do a powder dry shampoo which is available in different colours. I would have loved to have included this product in my review but at £28 I thought it's a bit hard to justify. I would love to hear from anyone (wealthy enough to have tried it!) who has a view on it. Good luck!

I wash my hair twice a week and stopped using conditioner after spending some time in India. Over there I used an ayurvedic shapoo absolutely wonderful, and didn't need conditioner becasue the water was not as hard as in London. I continued like that once back and use conditioner very sporadically, as my scalp gets irritated very quickly if I do. To be honest, I don't think most of us need it I would say, try and see if it improves by not using conditioner. I also subscribe to the herbal shampoo option. I use a serum on the ends while damp to kill the static, and that's it. It stays clean for longer in that way.
  • Lush do natural shampoos that are solid blocks. Gentle Lentil is great, can highly recommend it, not sure if it will help but you could try.

if you try changing your shampoo it can help. Otherwise it's just getting used to it.

How long is your hair? that limits your options a bit

I had really greasy hair when I was a teenager, through my twenties and the fringe and front of my hair is still horrible when I wake up the next day (I'm 37!). I hoped I'd grow out of it... Ha!

My DS1 had a similar problem and we've found that Boots greasy hair shampoo (green bottle for around 59p) is the only one which left his hair presentable by the evening. As he is getting older the grease is improving, and so his hair is ok the next morning, but only with this shampoo.
So might be worth trying as it's so cheap.

    It's only a game

I have long hair, belfastgirl23. It's also light blonde, which means no worries about powder/dry shampoo etc making me look grey! :rotfl:

Thanks for all the tips, I certainly have to try them!!!
