Advice on how to end contract with 3 or possibly get a better deal.

Hi
My wife and I have two monthly contracts with 3, we have been with them for 3 years on 2 18months contacts, and they are both in my wife’s name. The contracts are due to end 11/10/09. We both pay £15 for 300 mix and match units. The signal we get at our new home is quite poor and only seems to allow us to make calls or send texts from the left hand side of our kitchen. Both of us would rarely go over 100-150 units a month, and due to poor mobile signal we would tend to us our home phone in the evening rather than the mobile.
We have decided that unless 3 offer us a very good deal for a lot less we will end our contract and move to O2 (as their signal is great in all parts of our house) either on a pay monthly or pay as you go basis.
Now my question is (sorry for the long winded explanation above) how do we cancel the contract with 3? I have heard people mention 30days. Do I have to advise them before 30 days from the end of the contract or is it within the last 30 days?
And then what about a PAC code how does this work, do I ask for it at the same time or do I do that later after I have told them I want to cancel.
And how long is a PAC code valid for and do I have to use it with another network before the 3 contact completely ends?
And what about retention calls, how does this work?
Sorry about all the questions, and thanks in advance for your help.

Ask 3 for the pac codes (which last 30 days before expiring) as you come to the 30 days before your contract end. I dont think they'll give you the codes before that. . .
Give the pac code to O2 they will action them within 3 days and move your old number to new accounts.
If you use the code before the end of your contract 3 with just bill you to the end date.
Retentions will call you and offer you a better deal, but if the issue is poor signal unless they offer to build a mast at the end of your garden, I can't see they can offer much to stay !0 -
Thanks for that?
if Retentions do phone and offer a good deal for £5.00 a month i could possibly be tempted as it was good enough and cheap enough i would take it to have the security of a mobile when out and about.
Also I forgot to ask in my orginal post, does anyone know about unlocking our phones at the end of the contract, my wife and i both have nokia 6500 slide, can we ask 3 to unlock these as the contact is ending, and if so is this free or do they charge?
thanks Again.0 -
Three I think you charge you £15 to unlock, probably better to take to mobile/market stall who can unlock for £5-£10. I dont think 3 will offer you £5 a month for the £15 plan, £12 would be their offer.0
