French Premier Inn?

Is there an equivalent chain of hotels in France to Premier Inn, in the UK?

You know the sort of thing, lots of locations, good value price wise but not bargain basement rot at the same time.

I'm looking to stop off somewhere on the way from Calais to Bordeaux and want to pay about £50-60 for something decent quality.

Try Formule 1, pretty much an exact equivalent of Premier Inn - http://www.hotelformule1.com.

Really I thought at least in the UK they were below travelodge in the pecking order?

Edit: Just checked and they don't even do en-suite rooms, way off what I'm looking for.

Cheers. Are there any in particular you recommend?

I've stayed in suitehotel before and was looking to do so again but they are wanting 90GBP for one night, which for a single night stopover is rather steep.

The above link will take you to a page full of French hotels of different qualities. I have used Premier Classe regularly. They are roughly the same as travel lodge.. Campanile is the next grade up in the same group (kyriad)
    Something Really Interesting

Yep, I was looking at Tours as it lies pretty much on the half way point between Calais and Bordeaux. (I'll probably be staying in the Folkestone premier inn before going through the tunnel)

Campaline - yep, I forgot about them, I'll check it out.

As for staying in a family run hotel, thanks but no thanks. Independent hotels are, to put it mildly, 'variable' in quality and I've learned through bitter experience to stick to the chains. You might not get much, but at least you know what you are getting.

Mark, we have always used Campanile and found them to be fine. They have clean rooms, an efficient booking service, and very often a half decent restaurant (Always go for the Plat du jour on the menu). They serve a very complete breakfast, which means that you hardly need any lunch.
If you go for any of the others, then Etap Hotel is like an uprated Formula 1, but with shower in your room, no restaurant, but they do give a basic breakfast.
I would personally go for a Logis de France (do a Google search), because they are family run, and can provide fairly cheap accommodation. Some of them have very good restaurants, which will provide a local speciality menu at reasonable cost.
It used to be good value going to France afew years ago, then the pound crashed against the Euro, but I still think it is a great place to visit.
I would take Dinkydogs advice, and stop off somewhere close to Tours.
    Bon journee,
    from a very envious Andy.
  • Try https://www.accorhotels.com who feature all these hotels named above and you can then compare facilities and prices. You can also get cashback via quidco. Another chain is Campanile

We stay in Premiere Classe - one up from Formule 1 as each room has it's own shower and toilet (Forule 1 only has a sink in the room).

For an overnight stay they can't be beaten - really cheap (around 40 euros for a room for up to three people), always very clean, close to motorways so you don't have to travel too far off your route and generally near restaurants that you can have a meal at before crashing for the night.

And you can reserve online www.premiereclasse.com

I know they're not plush but for an overnight stay they fit the bill :T

Ah, cheers, I'll have a look at those!

It does seem that there are two main brands in France. Accor, and whoever runs the Campanile brand.
