I get 60 miles for £10 of petrol on the bmw 1.8 auto. 80% on dual carriage roads, speed of 70-80mph. I recently been doing 50-60mph consistently and got about 75miles for £10 of petrol.

Thats a big difference getting another 15miles on 10 1/2 litres of fuel.

I have got a large car that some people would call a gas guzzler and me an ostentatious show off who is irresponsible for driving what I do. It has a 3 lt V6 Diesel engine & an autobox.

I get 35 mpg from every tank.

The best I have achieved is over 42mpg on a speed limit adhering 120 mile run.

There is a Daewoo/Chevvy thread running on here at the moment about a guy in a Daewoo Tacuma (mini mpv) who is getting 31-33 mpg from it and wonders if that is the going rate. The answer was no, he was doing better than most ! Other drivers were reporting 25-26 mpg.

But of course he drives a responsible family car, rather than my "nasty gas guzzler".

    Hi!
    On a similar subject.
I'm getting 28 mpg out of my 1.6 Automatic Almera with half to two thirds of that on the motorway. It's been recently serviced and the tyres OK and I don't think I thrash it. Is there anything else I can do to improve matters as it does seem rather thirsty?
    Thanks
    Kevin
    Depends on speeds.
    Autobox doesn't help.

I manage 31-32 mpg from my 1991 BMW 318iS and I thrash it most of the time.
