w995 problems please advise

Hi all
Have had this phone for 3 months on Orange through BuyMobilePhones.Net.......and have had some recent problems with it
1.phone will consistently revert to factory settings
2.previously would revert back to my applied settings if switched on and off but now makes no difference
3.when pressing record on video, the phone immediately switches back to screensaver mode
4.will not save pictures in relevant folders ,until today could not access the "latest photo" folder and when i accessed via Cam.Album folder the photos where not displayed only symbols.
5. Now today all photos and videos i have taken since June have disapeared including this weeks worth of family holiday pics!!! ...and new photos i took today are viewable as normal !!.
We are all very upset about the holiday pics....did nothing different with the phone it just seems to have a mind of its own
Had a k800i for 3 yrs with no probs so not sure what to do..is it a case of just sending phone back for replacemant
At moment feel like i should be compensated for loss a our precious photo memories but i suppose thats too much to ask for:sad:

I also have a W995 on Orange, I'm on my 3rd handset but still love the phone!
My main problems have been the screensaver not working and being unable to access photos/videos via File Manager pain in the butt - its happening on my 3rd handset too so going to have to phone up but don't want another handset as it will happen again but do not want a rubbish handset replacement as I'm only 2 or 3 months into an 18 month contract.
The 2nd handset died when I was away in Liverpool for a few days, it switched itself off and wouldn't switch on so I was unable to take photos or use it - Orange gave me £10 compensation!
If I were you I'd phone up orange from another handset on 07973100150 and explain all the problems you are having and see what they say.
Try this to get your photos back, switch off the phone, take the battery out and leave it off for a few minutes then switch back on - this usually brings back my photographs on my memory card (which does work with my old handset so its not the memory card)

If the photos were stored on the memory card you could try a recovery software such as http://download.cnet.com/PC-Inspector-Smart-Recovery/3000-2242_4-10066144.html?!!!!!mncol

I have previously used it to recover photos from a formated SD card.

hi,
have you tried installing new firmware on the phone? it normally helps iron out the problems. it worked for me when my phone was playing up. Its pretty simple to do, just go to sony ericcsons web site and look in the support section.

i would advise taking the memory card out if you are going to update, just to make sure nothing gets deleted from it

Thanks for your replies....have done the firmware update last night and so far so good, there seems to be none of the above problems at the moment.
As far as recovering pics that have been apparantely deleted...are they still on the memory card somewhere then?, how does pc inspector work?

I have also installed latest software from website and still no joy, really need to phone up cos the battery out thing is only lasting for a few hours.

Hi All i recently used the update from the sony website and it has killed my walkman function on the phone, it still place but all track details fail's to show the details on the phone...

any ideas ????

they do still show up when i go into my music folder, i have also deleted and re-applied but still no show :mad:
