Thank you for the advice :)

Also, i am technically unemployed (lost my last job due to cuts and now due to start a new job after crb checks etc are finished. Hurrah!) and wanted to sort the account before my new job begins, will there be a good chance they will turn me down for not having a job at this moment in time? Thanks x

Unemployment is not a bar for a Basic Account - usually only refusals for Bankruptcy and History of Fraud

Your situation is one of the reasons that basic bank accounts exist.

If you go into Branch (Other than Barclays i think) they should be able to give you an account number and sortcode there and then.

I have applied for a Natwest account. Hopefully when i get settled into my new job i can pay off the rest of my student overdraft in a few months (good riddance!)

When i am all paid up will my credit get good enough to allow me a slightly more sophisticated bank account? Or will i have to phone up myself and see how much of my bad credit i can get wiped off my record (i've heard people can do this, correct me if i am wrong). Thanks Dan and Robbo...you have been great help x
