Current Account for bad credit

Can anyone suggest a good current account for someone with bad credit?
No CCJs but I defaulted on a Barclay’s credit card 3 years ago but have had no problems or debt since then with no missed payments etc. I have had a cash account with Barclays for 11 years and have savings accounts and ISAs with Barclays and Norwich & Peterborough with regular money going in (and out
) of all of them.
Basically, I am hoping to get a loan towards a new car eventually but apparently, I cannot do that without having a current account in good order for 6 months.
Any suggestions?

Same here opened one a couple of weeks ago and my credit rating is shocking, couldnt get an overdraft but i expected that, plus i got £50 quidco as a bonus which has already been recieved in my quidco account ready to be paid at the end of the month :@) :beer:0 -
shame they ask for 5yrs address history though - thats as bad as vetting process for security industry lol
MI5 or A&L - you choose!

Applied online via quidco, didnt have to take i.d in to a branch or anything.
I already have accounts that ive had for years with hsbc and barclays who are being awkward over a charges reclaim i put in, so thought i had better open a new account as a spare.
A&L was the first i applied for after my credit rating had taken a nose dive0 -
You could also try HSBC.
I opened a Plus account with them and also got a CG card (£100) and a £200 overdraft. I also had really bad credit. (Worse than yours)0 -
I have bad credit from when i was a student a few years ago. Basically i messed up on credit card payments (which i have now paid back in full) and i also am still paying off an overdraft from my old (closed) student account, which i do monthly. I have a bad credit score obviously but cannot even get a current account WITHOUT an overdraft facility (tried halifax, citibank, hsbc, etc)!! I have applied for so many and am losing hope, you would think i had CCJ's or was bankrupt! I don't want an overdraft, just a current account with a debit card that i can set up direct debit payments and buy things online. Basic accounts you cannot do this.
I currently have to put money into my old building society savings account and i can only take money out at cash points.
It is very annoying as i am not the richest person in the World and would like the option to buy stuff cheaper online instead of on the high street. Also it would be much easier keeping up with my re-payments on a direct debit.
If anyone knows of a bank that may not turn me away then i would be grateful to know!"You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -

Pretty much every bank has a Basic Bank Account that you could apply for.
For example, Natwest have a Step Account Lloyds a Cash Account both of which come with Debit cards, and you CAN set-up DD's and pay over the phone and in shops with your card etc.
Make sure you are clear that you want to apply for the basic account though.

Barclays Cash Card Account - has a Visa Debit Card and does Standing Orders and Direct Debits - also Online Banking - and is a Basic Bank Account
Lloyds TSB has a Basic Bank Account with all the above too
Halifax has an EasyCash Account which does all the above but comes with a Visa Electron Card.
Nat West has all the above but comes with a Solo Card (Although I read they are changing to Visa currently - not sure if its full visa or Electron)Official SOS Club number 004 - Dry until (05.01.10)0
