So, she owes you £306 and makes little or no effort to repay it.
you "owe" her £80 but of this, she wants to buy another games console.
If she owed you £226, and then came to you asking to borrow another £80 to buy OH a console, what would your answer be then?
The risk is that by saying you will retain the full £80 against the debt she has with you, that she will say "stuff you" regarding the remaining £226.
BUT, what are the chances of you getting any of that money out of her any other way?
I know you say she has had a run of bad luck.....well, we've all had runs of bad luck, but we don't then try to rip our mates off.....
No situation is going to be ideal, here, apart from her being honest and reliable regarding her own circumstances, and it looks like she is a long way from it.
Time for tough talk between you and her. But you HAVE to retain the upper hand here, otherwise you may as well write off the whole lot now!

oo I'm fuming..cant believe she had the flipping nerve to say you owe her - I wouldnt give her a penny back...you owe HER nothing - she owes you...simples. ooo makes me cross...
Re Christmas..taxi's story reminds me of a christmas with mum when I was about 12. She was on bens, had NO money; dad living luxury lifestyle but gave no money t support us...he lavished us with gifts...she saved for months to buy a duvet and cover...guess which one I loved for years? Cant even remember what he got...its the love and thought that makes a gift meaningful not how much it cost. All my family and friends are having hm presents this year and I know they will love them because they know that they mean more than any shop bought I ever got...what about a skills swap as a pressie? One friend will be getting a learn how to knit voucher!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Managed to get £35 - Her DH had spent nearly £50 in town on a new console and a birthday pressie so couldnt not give her anything as it was food money he used. I dont want to go in guns blazing or risk losing it all like Hypno said.
I think Xmas will be ok if I plan and be careful. I have a week off mid Nov that I plan to use as the get as much does as possible.:j0 -
She really needs a kick up the rear, you helped out a friend in gd faith, think you really need to sit down with her and maybe do it the pretence of what a wonderful site this is (which it is), but how much its helped you throughout the year, and what great tips you have had, and maybe you'd like to share it with her, (something along that lines).
I know you said you have the week off in Nov for xmas, if its any help-

Hi KP. :hello: Thanks for the message on my diary. I have to say you're showing great patience re: this 'friend' of yours.

Their ideas are amazing as well as cheap and cheerful. Be warned though, once you start reading it's so addictive and the pics of their homemade gifts are great!
Well done on your target so far, you are an inspiration you know.

Hi
I totally agree with you, but maybe her husband doesn't know she borrowed the money, and sometimes as they say you dont know what goes on behind closed door.
But I do think she is being totally irresponsible about paying it back, and shes avoiding it and I guess hoping that KP does the same xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Yep M21 right DH has no idea of the loan so as it was his xmas gift that got returned for a refund he believed they had the cash for a replacement. The fact that they have money worries without my "loan" anyways didnt enter his head though. Personally if it had been me I wouldnt have replaced it but thats Men for you.:j0
