If it is any consolation, I budget like crazy, do my numbers every day......and yet I somehow missed the fact that the council tax is paid:rolleyes: So instead of being able to balance the books with £3 spare :j I am short by £170

all because I didn't read my list properly :o

Sorry to hear things aren't balancing out KP. I've really only been super-stringent this last couple of weeks, ie counting every single penny, and even then I have found that if I don't keep on top of it every day then something gets forgotten about and I'm scrabbling about for receipts and ATM receipts.

That is a great budget for shopping btw - any tips?

Re: the girly weekend... I must say I hesitated from commenting as I immediately thought of it as in, well I wonder how I'd feel if my OH came and said he'd want a boys' weekend away... I'd be horrified but slightly different as he has more of a social life anyway and I doubt he could afford it really without budgeting properly - basically I'd be worried a) we'd be short for rent and b) his mates would want to be going and doing all manner of things I don't approve of... But I do think you deserve a break - kinda explains things with him thinking you were going to leave (!)

I don't know if I mentioned but I had a similar situation with my OH. For some reason I found myself desperate to get engaged, and once I had conveyed this to OH, he seemed to back off - there's a whole 9-page thread about it somewhere:o:o:o At some point I broke down and said I felt cheated he had led me into having baby believing we would take that step and now he was coming up with various 'reasons' why he didn't want to... Anyhow we eventually agreed to tie the knot - really he was 'persuaded' by me, and I know he does like the idea - but comments such as 'when I see you talking to your sister (my sis getting married v. soon) and I see how important it is to you I feel pleased I can make you happy by us getting married' are well-intentioned but I wish just sometimes he'd show me how important it is to HIM too:confused:

Do you think he'll ever want to get married? Would he do it in time maybe, or would he do it because he knew it was important to you? Or is it a "no, never" deal?

I reckon he would with persuading but I dont want to be too pushy. I know I will have to be the driving force behind it but as you know there is a line. I do actually want him to think its an ok idea and not she will leave if I dont. TBH itll be me who loses the most if it went pear shaped.

Yep same worried about its not fair and what about the cost. Point 1 - Id love him to go somewhere if we had notice to plan life is for living so the odd treat is worth it. Point 2 - I found I have a contractuate bonus each year that is notmuch but would cover the cost and more so with care I am willing to pay now and use that later. It comes just before the trip. Not planning a family holiday or at least a big one next year as I find the kids dont really appreciate it and its a lot of stress for me. I can do a cheap cheap camping trip if needed and daytrips using Tesco vouchers instead.

Sorry to hear taht the books didn't balance..it's so easy to forget something and a good job you had other money saved so not too bad.
My DH said he was never going to get married ever but then surprisingly asked me after 7 years!!..so there is hope..perhaps if you ask him what it is that makes him hold back you can reassure him...
  • He says its not something he ever thought was for him but neither were the kids!

Tesco shop ordered at £88  but lots of offers not deducted so hoping it comes to £70-75. Still higher than Id like but there are so stock up offers in there.

    Missed that bit sorry

tbh Im not that good I think there is too much processed in there part cost and part time. I do mix where possible and stock up if I see a good deal.

I use online and try for codes although I seem to luck out on that more often that not. Lots of Tesco basic - ie 24 jaffas for 38p are a cheap treat and tesco own brand in there. Choc treats like that arent exactly heathly so not fussed about the qualilty infact they usually taste as good as the originals. I have ordered the healthy mince this time 2*500g for £5 to cook something from scratch using good old 38p tesco value sauce and some 41p passata.
