He said it had all been sat there for years :rotfl:and he obviously wasn't bothered!

Finders keepers then I guess if nobody had bothered about it for all that time!

it amazes me that parents complain about uniform but splash out on designer goods and the latest mobiles for their children.

people should stop whinging about uniforms, if they werent wearing a unifrom they would be wearing something!

Seems like its the law every year to moan about uniform!

We have uniform at the school I work at but only stock sweatshirts, poloshirts and waterproof fleeces with school logo on. We tell parents to buy everything else at Asda/Tesco etc as long as they stick to the colours. Quite happy as well if children have plain coloured cardigans or sweatshirts.

Uniforms are a good idea though - my sister lives in USA and she buys her children her "own Uniform" so that they know exactly what they are going to wear to school.

DS & DD went to local secondary school and that has a uniform of blazer with badge on but luckily although they can only be purchased from one place they aren;t expensive.

My son starts secondary school in September and the most expensive bit of kitis the PE kit, which has to be from the official supplier which is miles away and then the white soled trainers, astro turf trainers, football boots, shin pads, gum shields.....

The blazer isn't cheap, but it's bearable as shirts and trousers can come from Asda etc.

I used to have pumps from primark for £3 for pe, lots of kids, especially the ones that loved sports or were on teams had branded trainers, but no name primark pumps didn't leave me mentally scarred, in fact a friend and I used to make a joke about it. My mum wasn't prepare to spend big money on kit for something I hated and would give up as soon as possible. Don't blame her, would have been a waste.

Sometimes it is character building for a child not to have the same as all their friends they can't go through life expecting to be able to have the same as everyone, and if they do they will get into trouble. DFW is full of people who have run up frightening levels of debt keeping up with the jones' at some point in your life you have to learn to be realistic and to live within your means and prioritise. School isn't too early.
i went to an inner city comp, i would have learned hospitalisation for less

BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

Do they not have a hand-in's club with the PTA - hand in the old school uniform (too smalls etc. or leavers) and new pupils can buy from the hand-in's for £1 a piece to go to school funds?

They seem to have a uniform sale periodically at our school where parents take in their unwanted uniform in good condition and labelled with the price they are hoping to get and then the school sell it on their behalf and take a percentage of the proceeds for the school funds.

Think that's how it works but haven't been to one myself
  • Rugby Kit
    Cricket whites
    Athletics kit

    And the list goes on......

When I was at school the boys had white shorts for summer (athletics cricket and tennis) and black ones for winter (rugby hockey football cross country), they had a football/rugby longsleeved top and long black socks for winter and a white polo shirt and short white socks for summer. They could also have a tracksuit if they wanted for very cold days. That was all they needed unless they were on a team. Anything else is unnecessary (TBH I'd question whether they need two sets of shorts) and the schools should be challenged!

They girls when I was at school had a black skirt, black knickers, white polo, a pair of short white socks and a pair of long black socks and optional track suit, that did for everything, you just swapped socks and took the skirt of according to the sport. We were allowed black leotards too if we wanted for dance/gym/trampolining.

We all had to have a pair of football or hockey boots too, and a tip is that hockey boots are cheaper but do the same job (less likely to injure someone too). Having said that I can't remember really using mine......

My school was a comp with, shall we say "a large intake from the more deprived areas of the city" despite its relatively suburban location. I survived wearing primark pumps, primark trainers, primark polos and primark tracksuit for PE. I even wore home made clothes for uniform, and I was reasonably popular too :p

It is character building, a learning experience etc never did me any harm.

To be honest if more mums sent their kids in affordable gear then they would be the majority and wouldn't get bullied. But kids that are going to get picked on will get picked on for something, if you've got the latest trainers then it'll be your nose or your hair or your teeth.
  • My secondary school's uniform (a grammar school, seem to be the worst offenders) was/is another of those that can't be bought from anywhere cheaper (except shirts). That's a £65 blazer, £35 skirt, £20 jumper and £4 tie that everyone must have, and then there's the sports kit, lab coat, apron, shoes etc. I'd be complaining if i was a parent - it's pretty extortionate. Primary school uniforms seem really cheap from supermarkets at least.
