Thinking of moving to Talk Talk but need help

Was thinking of moving to Talk Talk from BT but when I put in my tele number to see if it was in my area got the following message:
"Your phone number was originally provided by a company other than BT (maybe a cable company). We don't have arrangements with these companies to transfer your number so unfortunately at the moment we are unable to give you TalkTalk."
Which is the case as it was an NTL number. Any ideas how to get around this? Maybe I simply need to request a new number from BT?
Help would be appreciated.

Haven't you read all the horror stories in the forum!?!
As long as your number is on BT and you have a BT line now, there physically shouldn't be a problem signing up - you may need to ring them and do it over the phone though.0
