PAYG Phone Insurance

Hi,
I need some help. If you buy a PAYG phone can you get insurance from the network on it?
I have just come off the phone to 02 as my contract ended today and have gone on a sim only deal.
If I can find a decent deal somewhere else then I'm off to another network otherwise I am thinking of buying a PAYG Iphone 3GS and staying on simplicity.
I am a bit concerned that something which costs £440 will be walking around with me.
When I spoke to the person in retentions and told them what I was thinking of doing they said I cant get insurance on the Iphone from them unless I get it on a contract.
Is this true? Or were they just going to get me to sign up for a new contract?
Thanks
Barry

Bump.
Anyone got any ideas if you can get insurance for phones used for simplicity or payg phones?0 -
A quick Google search bring up a few places that offer insurance on PAYG phones. I can't comment on how good they are but this company offers insurance on an iphone for £4.41 a month or £17.69 for 12 months which means you get 3 months free if you pay for the whole year upfront.

You could try reading this guide that Martin Lewis wrote a guide on mobile phone insurance which has a bit about PAYG phones and the options available on it
