I posted the other day about a propoerty that came up with no floor coverings well we rang them and it's still available however there is a snag, in order to view the property, as well as filling in a form in order to view the property we have to go into the office and present identification...The problem with this is the property itself is about 60 odd miles away and in order to go into the office we then have to make an extra 30 mile round trip on top of that in the wrong direction just to present ID.....
Would you bother because we are wondering if any property is worth that much just to view it?
has anyone else had this problem?

Why cant you show ID when you view the property?0

Couldn't your solicitor send certified copies before you view? I would say 30 miles from the property is not too far to present ID. It's not how far it is from you, it's how far it is from the property that you are viewing.0

There would be no way we would consider employing a solicitor to certify our id just to view a property, if we were thinking of taking it then fair enough but this is just to view the property....
Creditboy I can't see why we can't do that either as we would be meeting the landlord at the property and if we wanted to take the property then we could take them into the office at a later date when we go to sign tenancy agreements...0 -
Sorry, you are renting the property. I think they will want ID, and may want financial information before they let you view - basically they want to be sure they would be wiling to let to you before wasting their time showing you around.
I'd speak to the letting agents - they may be willing to come up with a compromise.0 -
If you are renting a property with no floor coverings is this just a six month AST, or do you have a 12 month minimum term... what are you proposing to do about floor coverings?0

We've got a few ideas and people helped us out yesterday with that one...
As for renting I do know that you need to provide ID as i have rented in the past, we are more than happy to fill out the application form in which we have to give our bank details etc but this is the first time we have come across this situation, in the area where we currently live no agent asks even for a form before viewing, in the area we want to move to we have been asked to fill in a form on occasions but in most it's only filling in forms and ID when we have said we would like a property....0 -

Why do they need to see proof of ID prior to viewing a rental property? What questions are on the form you have been asked to fill in?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

could it perhaps be that the person doing the viewing wants to make sure they have a record of who they are meeting in advance?
anyone remember the Suzy Lamplugh case?
ie. the Estate Agent murdered while showing "Mr Kipper" around a property. The Lamplugh Trust has campaigned ever since over personal safety issues for staff when meeting strangers at properties.0 -
