I need to send a fax to France via email

Options
Hello techies,
Can anyone help me please - I need to send a fax to France to book a bed and breakfast (owner has no email address) and also receive their reply. I don't have a fax machine but, after I did a search on the internet, it seemed that it might be possible to do this online without paying but I was a bit baffled with all the different sites. Can anyone recommend an easy way of doing this?
Thanks
Sandra

That does'nt make since but I get your gist.
I've not heard of any web sites so I would either Google it or wait for somebody else to reply who has done it.

What I used to do is use a fax/modem with some approirate software this then allowing you to send and receive.

    Not sure if this helps.
    Regards,
    Dave

For the odd fax, you can do it from your PC as long as you have a dial up modem to use rather than subscribing to an e-mail to fax service.

If you have windows xp look into the built in fax console, this will let you send a fax.

You might need to go to: START | CONTROL PANEL | ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS | ADD/REMOVE WINDOWS COMPONENTS | Tick FAX SERVICES | Click NEXT and it should install. To load it up go to: START | ALL PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES | COMMUNICATIONS | FAX

    Hope it helps.

I agree, if you have a modem then you can use that. Obviously you can send but also receive if your computer is set to intercept the call. Otherwise, services like efax.co.uk / efax.com do this. I used to use their free service to both send and receive, but I don't know what it's like now.

You can send a free text fax to France via TPC.int; if you want to send formatted text or graphics, use it with Scanfax to emulate anything a fax machine will offer.

I would stay away from the online fax sites if possible. With a dial-up modem you will be able to do it from your desktop with no problems at all.

The only slightly tricky part is when the reply is sent back you need to make sure your PC answers the phone call (with the fax data transmitte down it) and there isn't an answering machine switched on or other device that will answer the call before the computer.

    Good luck ;)

I dont mean to sound harsh but thats a silly comment to make :) Im sure the OP has thought of using the post and disregarded it for whatever reason.

Plus: Fax = Instant, Post = Not Instant/Costs Money.

    Clive,

    Thanks for you assessment!

It wasn't intended to be "silly", sarcastic, or patronising to the OP..

You may be right, the post may not be an option, but sometimes the most obvious option may be missed. By the time the OP gets a fax there by whatever means, it could have arrived in the post.

I would have thought that it is highly unusual for a B&B to only accept fax bookings, how many people have faxes in their house? A phone call followed up by a cheque, or a credit card booking would normally suffice.

    Faxes aren't free..
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
