in Cutting tax
First question, is a P11D issued to all employees or only those that have expenses/benefits to declare.
Second, should companies declare on the form expenses paid which are only reimbursement of business costs paid up-front by the employee? My company does this (which usually mucks up my tax code as the tax office sees it as a taxable benefit, which I then have to correct them on). Yet my husbands P11D ignores this and only includes actually employee benefits e.g. his private medical insurance. Who is right?
Finally, trying to obtain a P11D from a former employer, is there a time limit by which they have to supply these?

P11d is only issued to employees that have any benefits.
All expenses repaid to employees have to be reported - UNLESS the company has a dispensation.
Depending on the company's complexness of affairs this could be very difficult to obtain.
They have to supply to you P11D's by 31st July I think (I will confirm). They have to supply them to HMRC by 6th July though.0 -
I didn't have any benefits with my former employer, but did have to pay out of pocket for business expenses which were refunded. So from reading your post I should still expect a P11D.
Be good to know if the deadline was 31st July, I know there's been postal strikes but today is 17th August. Emailed old payroll dept but no reply thus far.0 -

Most companies do have a dispensation to cover out of pocket expenses so if you didn't have any car, fuel or private medical I wouldn't be surprised that you don't get one. Did you ask any of your colleagues?
Deadline is either 31st July or the same as for HMRC - 6th July. Looking at HMRC websites but it is unclear.0 -
BTW why are you worried? have your tax code changed?0

Deadline for P11d's to employees is 31 July. An employer has to provide a copy to an ex employee within 30 days of asking.
As Any says, reimbursed expenses should be covered by a dispensation which means they dont get shown on a P11d.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
Thanks for the replies, also heard from my ex-employer now too. They now have dispensation in place so don't have to declare 'out of pocket' expenses.
So as no other benefits were received, they have confirmed I won't be issued with P11D for 08/09.
Btw, I was asking as tax office have asked me to send it so they can sort out my tax code - I've been on BR since last December!
Hoping to get the rebate through soonish then.0 -

Good luck.
Make sure they change your tax code for this year for next payroll! If not, chase them for it.0 -
Yes indeed, in fact from now on I'm going to check my taxcode on my payslip each month too and not just look at the figure that's been paid into my bank!!0

If they have asked for it, then did you have benefits at a previous employment, that were in your code.
For this year they should accept over the phone that you aren't receiving any P11d related benefits and issue you a new code straight away if you have been with the same employer since april. He's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0 -
I guess they asked for it for completeness. There weren't any benefits, never have been with that employer. However, prior to 08/09 they used to declare 'out of pocket' expenses which meant I was always issued a P11D and then had to write to the tax office to explain these weren't benefits so they didn't adversely affect my tax code. Stupid system if you ask me, at least it's changed now.
Phoning tax office is futile, I've put the info in a letter to them.0
