Phone Calls Mid Contract.

Hi folks. This is my first post on these boards prompted by a phone call (one of many I have been recieving over the last few weeks) from Welsh companies claiming that my contract is due up and that they will arrange for a new contract for me.

I have worked in phone retail for a couple of years now and have always prided myself on my level of honesty and customer service. I would not compromise my integrity simply in order to make a quick sale (I believe getting someone to sign up to an unnecessary contract in 15 minutes will just mean that I have a disgruntled customer in the store for hours on end months down the line and this will prevent me actually doing my job which is to serve people and help them save money on their spending and give them a phone they will be happy with) so when I recieved a phone call this morning offering everything under the sun I realised just how irritating and dangerous these call centres can be.

After playing a long and listening to the callers script for a few moments I then asked a simple question "Can you tell me my name". As soon as the caller could not I decided to tell him honestly the problems we encounter in my store on a weekly basis.

Customers coming in and querying why they have two bills for different numbers that they shouldn't have, customers querying where their phone is that we should've sent out (as they assume that since they got their phone from us we called them and we were sending out a new phone) or customers coming in and asking why we continually phone them or give out their numbers to external companies.

In todays current climate you can imagine the issues that could arise from an extra bill coming into a household so the message is simple: be vigilant when recieving calls from "mobile phone companies". The numbers will appear on your phone and you have every right to vet the person on the phone. If they only have access to your phone number then they don't know anything about your account.

I assume that the numbers used by these companies are sequentially dialled. Previously we have been made aware of insurance fraudsters buying or obtaining one number then being able to dial up and down a list until getting an answer and selling fraudulant insurance. The idea that they could do the same thing but wait a year or so to obtain a contract sale is not beyond imagination and certainly explains why I recieved a call 12 months into my contract from someone that knows nothing about my contract or about me.

I will start posting on these boards and hopefully put in a bit of independant information to help people as their are far too many cowboys in the industry looking to take advantage of people.
