Parking in Blackpool during illumination Switch-on

Hi,
Me and the OH are heading up to Blackpool on the weekend of the illuminations switch on, which we discovered actually seems to span the whole weekend (4th-6th Sept), rather than just one evening.
So we are slightly concerned with how extra busy Blackpool might be? Also if anyone is local to the place, where might we be able to find some good parking if the place is over run?
Any help and information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Have you got somewhere to stay yet? Because quite a few hotels have parking that you can use for the duration of your visit and most places in Blackpool are accessible on foot or via tram.0

Thanks for your reply.
Yes we do have a place to stay, however it was during the last Travelodge £9 sale in which we only managed to get the 'Lancaster M6' travelodge for the Saturday night:eek:. Very Glam i know!
So unfortunetly we will be commuting in and out of Blackpool on the Saturday and the Sunday and so will need somewhere public to be parking.0 -
Perhaps you might consider parking in Bispham, where the lights start? Or even Fleetwood,Trams run from there right down throught he lights, altho it may well cost a few quid for the journey!
There are places to park in Blackpool but mostly short time altho I think there are one or two long term car parks, if i remember rightly the one next door to the sandcastle and opposite pleasure beach is long term,.
enjoy it, and it will be busy so as long as your prepared for that you will have fun!0 -
I'd say park at the end of the tram line too, like the other poster said. The main road (where the lights are) is always jam packed - one long traffic jam. Definately better to catch a tram.0

Hi
I live near Lancaster and maybe getting a bus would be an idea? They are very regular from Lancaster to Blackpool and not to expensive. You could then leave your car in the Travelodge car park for free and the bus would take you in to the centre of Blackpool. You would save on petrol and car parking charges! Just another idea to consider. Oh just to add you could then have a drink in Blackpool as you wouldn't be driving!

usually the switch on is on friday night, the illuminations are on for the rest of the month then.
theres a massive carpark in the center of blackpool (biggest in europe), it goes from the town center to the football stadium :
start of the carpark in town center > http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=53.812612,-3.052289&spn=0.003376,0.008422&t=h&z=17
end of car park > http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=53.795363,-3.04877&spn=0.001689,0.004211&t=h&z=18
that will probably be full because i believe they have the switchon there.0 -
Thanks everyone for your reply.
I think the best idea is the tram at either Bispham or Fleetwood. However i can't for the life of me find any information on parking at these tram locations or any sort of pricing structure to get to Blackpool.
Is anyone able to assist on this?
Many thanks

You're right - it isn't easy to find is it?
This is a list of the timetables in PDF format but I wouldn't know which line you needed!

other options are train blackpool is very very busy at weekends, I live about 30 mins away and will not go, if you have kids with you DONT let them out of your sight, give them your mobile number in case they get seperated, advise who to turn to ect, have a good weekend be careful if you do decide to park in Blackpool restrictions will be in force and the traffic is one way!! esp at weekends along the prom0

We went to blackpool a few weeks ago and we parked in the underground carpark under the police station where all the police park, as kindly advised by a warden. it's open to the public but many people dont know about it! Quite expensive though.. about £6 for 5 hours i think it was, or vice versa.
We're going again on 2nd of October for the weekend so we'll be doing the same then. We did think about parking right up the top and catching the tram down, but there's usually hardly any free places to park and tbh i wouldnt want to leave my car on a side street. so either way works out just as expensive! This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0
