If people post nonsense as if it is authorative information that needs to be pointed out very clearly otherwise it gets picked up and passed on and confuses everyone.

You do not have to check that sellers mean what they say before bidding.

This person is correct. If collection was listed as an option then there is no need whatsoever to contact the seller to double check that it's "really" ok.

The seller is going on holiday to Bulgaria and have no idea when they will be returning? Yeah right. They just don't want to sell at the price it was won for. Slap them hard for it.

i dont think its a scam as such ...but i do think he was expecting to get more for the item ...he had another 2 computers with virtually the same spec that sold for less than mine !! so i wonder how the other 2 buyers have got on ? .... he has since sent me a request to cancel the transaction ? if i cancel then i suppose i lose my right to neg him ??
As for requesting if it was ok to collect .... if an advert states collection is an option then i expect to be able to collect ? if the seller does not want people to collect then they remove that option from the advert dont they ??

You will not loose your right to neg him, but he will get his Final Value fees back. (10%) So i would refuse as he is not honouring the sale. He stated collection and is now refusing. So why should his FVF be refunded

If you start implicitly accusing people of 'bickering' you are likely to get some comeback.

So now you've started to get involved in bickering.

Does that mean you're in a mardy Monday, mood? :rotfl:

Don't accept the cancellation. Pay for the item only via Paypal (no postage as you have taken them up on the collection option), so that they can't issue a non-paying bidder strike. If they don't allow you to pick up the item, open an item not received dispute via Paypal to get your money back in the event they don't refund immediately (which it sounds like they are likely to do).

Actually, if they have requested a mutual, I don't think they can open a NPB anyway. Not absolutely certain on that, but I think that's how it works. I'm relatively sure that it is, about 99.9% sure. If it can be confirmed that is the case then no need to pay. Maybe if you pay though, they will complete the transaction. You never know.

Forward the request to ebay disputes section and ask for guidnce, explaining everything.

  • On second thought, what are the chances that you would get the same item! Seller can change the components (just being sceptical)

I've got a similar issue. Won an item, £5 postage. Seller lives 5 min away, stated collection as an option in auction.

Messaged requesting collection time, said I get back from work after 6pm weekdays, and am free all weekend. Seller replied they are working then.

Said to state a time, am usually up till midnight all days, so am free 8am-12am weekend. Replied saying they working...what, 2 16hour shifts after a full week of evenings as a perm time???

Fine, postage is only £5, but as I'll miss the postie it also means getting to the Sorting office before 11am on a Saturday and queueing for half an hour. So the 10 min round trip will take almost an hour as the sorting office is twice the distance. I have mentioned this to the seller.

    They ain't getting a 5* rating that's for sure...

    I have to ask:

Why did you not put them on the spot by asking what time you could pick the item up?

If I've ever been in that situation I email the seller and ask for a range of times that would be suitable.

If they are making a profit on the postage which they'd rather hold on to you're giving them an excuse on a plate by telling them when you'll be available.

Was the collection actually an "option" then?

I read it as something that had been written into the bulk text, but the actual official option was postage only, hence the postage was charged.

If the option of collection was written in the bulk of the text and not an official option, then if you didn't contact them before bidding, they no doubt would have presumed you would want it posted.

I'm not bickering - I'm just trying to clarify something that's not clear, as usually people are up in arms when they get a buyer wanting to collect but haven't contected them about it earlier!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
