t-mobile upgrades

Hi everyone - first post here, couldnt see this posed elsewhere....!
I've just reached the end of an 18 mth contract with t-mobile - i phoned up to employ Martin's tips re negotiating a good renewal deal. The long and the short of the conversation was that i was offered 300 mins on flext for £6.75 a month but no new phone. If i want a new phone then they would not beat the web price of £18.75.
The £6.75 sounds like a good deal to me......but will it pose a problem when i next come up for upgrade and do need a new phone - ie will they say my monthly spend isn't enough? Any thoughts would be appreciated......!

My missus is currently in a similar situation with O2, but we get a new phone aswell (not the latest models). We get offered £6 for 25 mins and 100 txts as she uses average of 16 mins and 63 txts.0

Thanks poopscoop - i guess i'm not overly concerned at not getting a new phone now (tho would be nice....). More thinking of a year / 18 months down the line when my existing fone will be coming up 3 years old and have probably given up the ghost.
I'm also thinking that maybe theres still scope for haggling as I failed to get put thru to 'disconnections' at t-mobile when i called, so maybe didnt get their best offer.0 -

When someone calls through and says they'd like to cancel the retentions department have a specific amount of money they can use to retain a customer - if they're not bothered about a phone this can be used to discount line rental, if they want a phone it can used to provide a free/discounted phone. If you've got the flext £25 (300 mins tariff) at £6.75 i'd say you've got a pretty good deal, 18 months down the line there is every possibility you'd still get an offer on a handset. The system takes more things into account than just monthly spend (ie calls received from other networks - cross network call charges incur a connection charge from the receiving network hence these calls being more expensive than on-net)
I've worked for t-mobile for 6 years and seen the upgrade policy change more times than i can count so i can't say what i've told you now will still be in place 18 months down the line.First name Mister

Mister G - thanks very much - useful info. I phoned back and they actually offered a flex 20 deal for £3 a month, no upgrade, which is even more of a bargain - i'll take my chances with the phone lasting another 18 months. I can always buy a cheapy off ebay / from Tesco if it breaks whilst i'm still in contract
.
The friendly chap did say i'd lose the discounts at the end of the contract, but as you say there will probably be other offers then anyway0 -

Mister G
I have been a t-mobile customer since one 2 one days I have pretty high bills & im very interested in the flex 75.
Now with the on-line discount its £56 or there abouts !!
How much do you think I could get this for per month taking into consideration my bills range from £60 - £120 & I have been a long standing customer.
I personally want it for around £20 - £35 per month.
Any ideas on the best way to go about it ?
Should I offer not to take a phone or do you think I could squeeze a phone out of them as well, considering I am a long standing customer & they are asking you to sign for 18 months on this deal when the normal terms are 12.0 -

Well T-Mobile offered me a free phone to take the flex 50 or 75 at face value with a 25% discount or without the phone £24 per month for flex 50 or £40 per month for flex 75.
They were not budging !!!!
A loyal customer for years & thats the best they can do !!!!
I guess I had the jobs worths in over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The thing that got me is that they then had the cheek to try & flog me Insurance , PAYG sim card & Jabba bluetooth.
If it was a Sony I may of considered it.
Well I have signed now but in 18 months time I think I will switch.
Hopefully by then Voda or 02 will have deals as good as or better because I refuse to switch to 3 because there customer service is worse that T-Mobile.0
