i have also made mistakes with coop cashminder (also basic account) but when the account got to just over £70 overdrawn in charges they suspended the account and canceled direct debits untill i was in credit again which is what natwest should have done?0

you may not overdraw your account but we may overdraw your account and charge you what we like to any amount that we like.
and try to get round this by using jargon that you may not have an authorised overdraft (ie you may not overdraw), but you may have an unauthorised overdraft (ie we may charge you and make you go overdrawn to what ever amount we like).0 -

i beleave that because Basic account,s are for people with bad credit history on benifits etc that charges on them should only reflect the costs to the bank (as it should on all accounts). not plunge people into debt that cannot afford it. as these are the accounts that mistakes are most likely to happen0

If a DD is cancelled at the bank it is cancelled. The company may try drawing on it but it will bounce back which is when you get the letters from the companies saying you cancelled your DD ring us and pay by other means etc.
How much notice of the cancellation of the DDs did you give to the bank ? ie how long before they were due to go out, theres usually a specified period like 2 days or so.LegalBeagles0 -
