Letter from EON about Elec meter

We got a letter from EON yesterday saying that our meter needed updating (it does!) and this would be done free of charge.
The letter was address to the "Current occupier" and came in the post, not hand delivered.
Is this for real as I am not sure who is responsible for the meter, or is it just a shot in the dark circular?
EDF is our Elec supplier if that makes a difference.

It sounds okay - thet have to update meters at regular intervals.
If in doubt contact E-on on their regular contact number (one you see on bills adressed to you) and ask them - they will clarify.
(Check meter readings before it's changed though for your own record)0 -

That's what I'm saying, EDF is our supplier, not EON.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090 -
Contact your supplier (EDF) and explain what you have recieved - they will clarify this for you. If they confirm that they have no prior arrangement with E-on to replace the meter and it is incorrect, then you will know.
They ought to sort it out on your behalf, but (as is my experience for energy suppliers inefficiency), then contact E-on and tell them that you have recieved this and that your energy supplier has confirmed that you shouldn't have - they can then rectify the issue.0 -

I'm guessing the letter will be from either e.on energy services or central networks. They are responsible for all the electric meters in the midlands area regardless of who your actual supplier is. It sounds as if your meter is due for recertification.

Suppliers receive no prior notification of recertifications so with have nothing on record0 -

In English, do you live in the Central Distribution Area shown on this map?

If so, the company responsible for maintaining the distribution network, including your meter, is E-On (Used to be a Regional Electricity Company called Midlands Electricity).
This is different to the company that you pay for your energy usage, which in your case is EDF.
Your letter is totally above board.0 -
Thanks for all your responses. Just wanted to clarify that it was ok.
We come under Central Networks West and it was the MEB when we first moved in 13 years ago.
We have phoned EON and they are coming round on 11th Sept, as that's the first available date.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090 -
