I've got an 37LG3000 LCD tv. It's got an integrated speaker but I think it's quite naff to be honest, having to turn the volume up considerably.
Want to do something about it but don't want to fork out for a DVD based home theatre system... for purposes of cost and also don't have any free shelves for a DVD player. Don't ever watch any DVDs anyway.
TV has 3.5mm jack and also component L+R RCA audio inputs and finally an Optical input.
Are there any separate surround sound speakers I can buy without getting full theatre kit?
I've still got the old surround speakers from my Toshiba TV but they just have bare wires. I've seen these two on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180397389434&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT this one just has the same bare wire input with clamps
and this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330351644439&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT the guy also said this just has +ve and -ve connections
Anyway I can adapt either of these or my old toshiba ones to connect to my TV. Baring in mind all I would have is a set of bare/exposed wires.

Those links are just to speakers. You need an amplifier to drive them:idea:0

Is there any other way I can connect some decent speakers without the cost and space of extra dvd/amp unit?0 -
not without an amp, without an amp you dont have anything to plug them into and theres no way to drive the speakers.
the headphone amp (3.5mm jack) on the tv wont be good enough to drive a set of speakers either.0 -
look at pc speakers, they have 3.5mm input and onboard amp. you can get a decent 2.1 with a sub for about £200
-
Got an old hi-fi around? Could use that if it has an external or "aux" input.0

How about something like a Yamaha soundbar? http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packages/yamaha/yas71/yama-yas71-blk0

Depending on the quality you want you could just pick up a pair of desktop speakers for about £10 ... but as with most things you get what you pay for... for a decent pair you would prob look at paying about £30 - £60

Hope this helps0 -

Bear in mind that the amp in the telly will be spec'd to drive the tiny speakers you're unhappy with. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.
