£5300 in 288 days for 30th birthday to florida

I am on a very ambitious quest to bring in additional resources to pay for our family trip to Florida that happens to fall on my 30th birthday, 1st June 2010.

This diary is purely to keep me motivated and may well be a boring read for most of you!

I am a married man with 2 cracking kids (3.5 and 10months) and earn a fairly modest wage every month, but like everyone else want it all!!! now!!!

My current "life goals" are as follows:
- To be debt free
- To move from 2bed mid terrace (kids are sharing) into 3 bed semi.
- To live life everyday rather than wish it away!

I have £8000 debt on credit cards that are all on 0%deals, saving towards a deposit, and am overpaying on our mortgage to build up some equity ready for the big move

we booked our florida trip a few months ago and have finally realised we cant do it all (:o) but sat down together and decided sod it, why cant we have it all!!

I dont want to divert our salary away from paying off our debts so i need to raise 5300 EXTRA HARD CASH from ebaying, cashback, campetitions, (gambling?) and overtime.

it equates to £18.41 a day...

Sorry for boring you !! im off to make my first twenty quid....:j

me too, thats a fantastic way to look at things - by breaking it down into a daily targets makes it seem more 'acehivable' - good luck!!
Focusing on clearing the credit cards in 2018 :T
  • thanks elantan, dottyanne im sure there are many like my parents and brother who think i need a reality check, so to be encouraged and praised is very refreshing!!

So my journey has started with £11.52 for an old mobile phone from envirofone it still has to be tested by them, though i havent had any trouble in the past. just to keep things simple (and me positive!!) im going to treat items like my phone and cashback sites as confirmed profits even though it takes time to process. If there are any problems i'll adjust my totals later.

Good for you - I wish you all the best! Good point about mortage overpayment - we'll be starting to save in September and overpayment instead of any extra cash going into the savings pot sounds like a good plan. Good luck! :)

Are you any good with maths? Have you looked into matched betting (NOT gambling)? I think there is quite a lot of effort getting started, in that you need to understand the system, but one of the other diarists (moo2moo I think ...) reckoned she was making about £15 per hour. What a fantastic goal. I will be reading along with interest.

DH and I (and our 3 children) are planning to go to Florida next year (apr/may) to belately celebrate my 40th which is in three weeks time . It's not practical to go any sooner as our oldest son has 11+ exams during Sep/Oct and I don't want to go right on Christmas (plus have no money saved towards it yet LOL).

We too have been overpaying on our mortgage as its a repayment tracker and they only review it once a year (sept), so from next month the extra cash will go into savings - welll that's the plan. As for making some extra money, think I too will look at Ebay/car boot sales etc. Plus I'm an Avon rep which helps.

    Good luck with your journey.

What a fantastic idea and will follow this threadc with interest.Well done on the phone..that's a great start.
  • not much more progress to report on from yesterday, but it was a standing start so things should pick up as we go. I listed a fair few items on ebay and me and the mrs have been doing the comps! (but to be honest, having never won anything that feels a bit in vain - until one comes in!!)

Fire Fox, i did "dabble" in matched betting a few years back and so have used alot of the bonuses already, i also went a step too far and started gambling so feel i aught to sty clear of that! thanks though.

Week days will be the hardest, strying to keep motivated after a long day at hell-i-mean work.
