Shame that Virgin and Cosmos are introducing a ceiling for Tesco-funded holidays though.

Even if the ceiling had already been introduced I would still be enjoying Bali for 2 weeks in Sept courtesy of Mr Tesco :D (smug, moi? oh yes! :D )
  • Save up a small amount each month for a holiday, in the past my parents have paid for flights and hotel but now im fending for myself (tho they still chip in occasionally!)

I will put some spending on the interest free credit card BUT only if i know i would be able to pay it off within 3 months of coming back.

do you save up and plan ahead? or do you borrow the money so that you can go away? what do people do?:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

We make cut backs all around, on electric, mobiles, food bills, pricey gifts; anything like it that it's possible to trim down. A good way of saving a little each week is to put all your loose change into a pot and don't take it out! Seal ip up and just pretend you never put it there. See the "Sealed Pot" thread on DFW board, a great way to save up for a holiday or anything else.

Also, do a SOA (State Of Affairs) and see just where it's at all possible to make cut backs, I'll be you find some.

All the best missindecisive. Save like mad from now on and who knows what may be possible next year!

    Best wishes.

If i just want a cheap last minute break to spain or greece i usually use my wages to book and pay for it and the following month's pay is used for spends, (my OH will cover the bills for them 2 months) but we have booked our holiday for next summer already and are going to pay that off monthly, it is a all inclusive resort so i know we won't need much in the way of spends :j

We went all inclusive last year and full board this year ( all inclusive not available ) but definetly the way to go. You can budget far better.

  • My holidays are my hobby!! I save each month, and we go abroad twice a year, once with the family, and another holiday just the 2 of us. We also usually have a couple of uk breaks. We dont have fancy mobiles, expensive cars, drink lots, or spend a lot going out. I suppose its a case of budgeting, and spending your money how you want. I am an OS money saver, because I like the idea, and the ethics of not wasting anything, rather than because of my financial situation. (Although the more money I save from the hints and tips on here, the more I can spend on my holidays).

PS AI is definately the way to go if you have young children, or if there is a group of you. Its amazing how the costs of ice creams, drinks, snacks add up, especially with the poor euro rate at the moment.

We both save 100 pcm for our holidays account. We also save all our loose change and any cash we get given as gifts goes into it. I have in the past had my ebay proceeds diverted into that as well, along with money raised from car boots/ cash backs etc.

Holidays are the single most inportant spend to us- we dont go out much though! When I look at some freinds spending 100 quid a night on going out, 2 nights out = one city break- flights & hotel. 3x nights out= flight to the far east.

I priced up a weekend away in Harrogate for OHs birthday, - hot air ballooning, reaonably nice hotel, 2 days car hire, rough price of meals. This was turning into being over 700 quid!! . I decided instead to take OH to orlando instead, the flight and accom are coming up at the same price as 2 days in harrogate. Yes we will spend when there!

We also make all round cutbacks- it depends if there is much to cut back on though I suppose! We dont have sky, and i never pay full price for anything :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I save until I have enough to get the holiday I want then off I go, I have a seperate holiday fund so that I know exactly how much I have and if there is any left, it carries over to the next one.
I pay for everything with my CC so that I get airmiles and an extra months interest on my savings.

I could not bear the thought of going into debt for the sake of a holiday.

My wages pay for the holiday and the 2 quid tin pays for the spends - had £570 in it in May! I also bring back enough ciggies to cover the cost of the holiday ;)
