how do I cancel Talk Talk?

My 3 month contract with Talk Talk (evenings and weekend package) finishes at the end of May. I also changed my line rental from BT over to them.

After reading all the posts on here I've signed up for 1899 and 18185 and want to change my line rental back to BT, get free caller display and sign up for Primus. How do I actually go about doing it.

Can I just contact BT and let them contact TalkTalk re line rental or do I have to phone Talk Talk and cancel the lot? I've got a feeling that's what you are going to tell me I will have to do. Not keen because I know they are going to try blinding me with science and try to persuade me to stay.

At what stage do I contact Primus?

I'd appreciate your advice I've learned so much from you all over the past couple of weeks.

TBH I don't know but, having read the numerous tales of problems with (and the cost of calling) TT Customer Services on here, I'd suggest a (free) call to BT (0800 800 150) initially.

They're always banging on about "I'd like to come back" (you don't have to tell them anything about your Primus/1899/18185 plans) so try that phrase!

Wait until your line rental is back with BT before contacting Primus.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

That is correct. Once your contract period has expired just ring BT and they'll do all the work.
  • Hi,

I'm having problems cancelling my TalkTalk contract. How did you get on?

They have a special cancellation line which was not answered after 20 minutes which was when i gave up. When i request to cancel my contract by email they do not reply.

I have subsequently cancelled by direct debit, and think i will contact BT and tell them i'm coming back so they can pull the strings.

The reason i'm cancelliing is that they advertise their talk3 package at £8.99 on their website and comparison services such as uSwitch, but i have to pay £11.05 for this as it's 'brand new customers only'. (Primus offer a better package at £8.49). TalkTalk won't budge and their customer service leaves a lot to be desired so i'm leaving.

I will post email correspondence here so people can see what is happening...

Does anybody know how i stand if i've cancelled my direct debit, but they haven't cancelled my contract and continue to try to take money from account, and do i get charged? At least it may make them acknowledge me ...

Euphony inclusive 24/7 01/02 calls package is cheaper still at £7.25p a month.

Did you just CPS your calls to Talk Talk or did you move your line rental as well?

I used uswitch to change my CPS from TalkTalk to Primus. On 10/5/06 I received an email from uswitch which told me that Primus would inform TalkTalk and all I needed to do was to cancel my direct debit to TalkTalk. However TalkTalk say they have heard nothing from Primus and are chasing me for payment. So I would recommend informing TalkTalk yourself. Try 0800 0316200. When I phoned this number they were busy but I left my number and they phoned me back a few days later. At the moment they want me to pay for May and June and then they "will calculate my overpayment and send me a refund"! I don't think so. I am refusing to pay until they send me an accurate invoice. Good luck.
  • Hi I contacted BT re changing my line rental back to them and they informed TalkTalk for me. BT gave me a change over date and I received a 'sorry you are leaving' from Talk Talk. Although BT said it wasn't really necessary I also sent a cancellation letter to Talk Talk just to be on the safe side.

I have left my Direct Debit at the moment until I get a final settlement bill from Talk Talk, in view of what I read on here I shall be watching them very carefully.

I 'Go live' with Primus tomorrow:T
  • Well, you guys are talking about cancelling TT contract after expiry of the contract. It should be straight forward, contact your new supplier and they will be happy to all the work for you.

I have a different problem: I have chosen TT Phone and broadband (Essential Package) as they are comparatively cheap. But the service I am getting is !!!!. I do not to continue. I have 18 months contract. I have joined with them in February 5, 2010.

Could you please help how to get rid of them?

    Thanks

You need to pay a cancellation fee of £70, call customer services.

If they are not doing the job, and they are failing to meet reasonable expectations, you need to write to them and give them a reasonable time to put it right and warn them that you will not consider yourself bound by the contract if they fail to deal with the issues. And if they fail to deal with the issues, then tell them to sling their hook, tell them why and don't pay them any more

Doing it as suggested above will be slower, but should be cheaper
