no other company would have got away with this? really? sony has sold 150 million ps2's to date, me personally... i went through 3 of them and a lot of my friends replaced at least 1. what did sony do? they dismissed the problem. at least microsoft admitted to it and offers 3 yr warranties to all consoles

Wow! What a generalisation? Do you own a PS3? I do and can tell you that what you have said is a blatant lie. I own 12 multiplayer games with chat and only 2 of them have the issues you describe and they are Battlefield Bad Company and Battlefield 1943 who are made by the same company (EA/Dice) and that is their problem not the PS3's. I guess you are another Xbox fanboy.

By the way, I like the 360 and have nothing negative to say about it but had to correct you on your false statement.

the Sony centre in sydney (yes, australia) has been clearing out 120gb models for under 200 pounds (thats even with the strong aussie dollar), so probably worth keeping an eye on uk sony centres in the run up to september.
