So you haven't had the red ring of death and had to replace it yet then???? There's a reason why an XBox is half the price of the PS3 - because after about 12-18 months (i.e. just after the warranty expires) the graphics chips become loose from the motherboard and you have to throw the box away.

    LOL.... so not true!
Yes, the older models do have a tendancy to break due to the welding overheating and melting, resulting in a loose chip.
However, you don't have to throw the xbox away - it's all covered within the 3 year warranty.

I didn't have the red ring of death, but had the other E message. Contacted their Customer Service and within a week of posting it (which they paid for) it was back and repaired.

I like both the xbox 360 and the PS3. I also like my old PS2 [chipped of course]. I like the PSP as well.

Sounds similar to the 'yellow light fault' with PS3 consoles.

Sony don't want to know and have the audacity to offer a refurbished models at £150 which are also breaking down after a few short weeks.
One kid I know is on to his 4th replacement

My son and his friends have been diehard Playstation fans for years, since the original model, and all have been totally sickened by Sony's attitude to this known fault. As a consequence, they are willing to take their chance with the xbox from now on.
None of them are willing to give anymore money to Sony!!:T and btw that's the kids making up their own minds, not pressure from the parents.

common fault on ps3's is also that the discdrives stop reading discs

the new 360's with new jasper chips inside are more reliable that ps3's, im certain of it. plus u get 3 yrs warranty

Interesting, news came out today about the official Xbox failure rate and its 54%, so lets get this straight 1 in every 2 Xbox 360s will fail! No other company would get away with this, Microsoft also have an appalling customer service track record.

The PS3 is still inferior to the xbox 360, graphic and gameplay-wise.
:jXBOX 360 IS KING OF THE CONSOLES:j

Like others, I've had all 3 next gen consoles. Needless to say I don't have a 360 anymore, but still have the Wii and PS3.
Although in Xbox fanboy's defence, the way multiplayer works on the Xbox is better than the PS3, because you can jump straight into any game that your buddies are playing, whereas with lots of PS3 games it's a nightmare.

I also had the red ring of death, but in fairness to Microsoft, they sorted it out even though it was out of warranty.

But back to topic, I want a new slim PS3. Is it too greedy having one downstairs and one upstairs. :j
  • Have you ever tried to go online with a ps3??? absolutely horrendous! you can chat to each other in the game lobby, but once the game starts, the ps3's live services are just kak and you lose the ability to chat!:D

i know xbox live is paid, unlike ps3's, but it is well worth it. You will all see what i mean, and will be returning your ps3's in favour of a REAL console that is the XBOX 360. :p if they do get the red lights, then within 7-10 days it is returned to you, all fixed up. all at microsoft's expense.

    if you want a blu-ray player, then buy a blu-ray player......simples!
  • Why is this so cheap? But good find though!

Because Sony have announced £249.99 is the price PS3s are dropping to, think I'll wait for the new model out next month though (bigger hard drive & uses less energy).
