Dont get me wrong, its a good phone and an awesome upgrade from the W200i sony ericsson, BUT i wanted the iphone initially due to unique features it has, including apps etcs. I was rejected on the credit check for the iphone, checked my experian report, which o2 had checked and i cannot see why they have rejected it, as experien hasnt listed my debts, only creditcall does. Any debt i had listed on experien has dropped off cuz of 6 year rule. So, i went looking for another phone, where i can access apps that are availble on iphone and after shopping around for about 2 months, i was convinced by three sales staff to get the nokia E71, as "the apps on nokia are better and a lot more are available then through iphone" according to sales. I asked if i could get certain apps, i got "yes, you can through ovi store". I went onto ovi store and suprise suprise, the ovi store has Nothing appealing to me and they have less then 10 apps available in news category and none of them are the ones i have heard of. i am really unhappy about this and i have been in contact with supervisor in indian call centre, who suggested i cancel contract! I cant do that, cuz need phone, but i dont have features that i want. I have tried to download apps from getjar.com - they wont download onto my phone :(

  • my question is - is there a way for me to get apps that i want? Supervisor said i can download from third party sites, but wouldnt name any, because of conflict of interest. I.e. Because of warranty reasons.

Thanks, however that is for google maps, which is a totally seperate and different app from google earth. I downloaded that the first day i got my phone. Like you said, only the good apps can only be found on iphone, with the only good one for nokia is the google map. :(

Not sure about that - whilst I have not used iphone or ever had one to look at - my own preference has been nokia or sony.

In fact whilst many go on about APPS as though they are the holy grail for iphone, I have used hundreds of apps, played hundreds of games on Nokia and Sony phones.

The best phones I found were nokia 6280 and Sony k810i (in fact I used this so much had to replace the keys).

Recently LG Cookie (good enough phone) but give me the other two and I could install so much stuff on that and do so much more . Next time next time.

E71 was in my mind but plonked for the cookie as it was cheaper.
  • I too have an e71 and had problems downloading applications direct from getjar onto my phone. The other option is to put nokia suite onto your computer from the cd that came with the phone. Then download the app from getjar onto your computer and install it by connecting your phone to the computer. I think you get the data cable with it. Hope this helps.

I really think you should take a trip to your local apple store and play around with the iphone. I am really not the type of person to want to have the latest "must haves", but i can say that the iphone has everything that i need. Majority of the apps on there that i want, as i mentioned is access to international media and and other scholarly articles that i would need whilst being a student from september. Purchasing overseas newspapers, or subscribing to le mode diplomatique, for example would cost me a fortune and all of these are available free via apple iphone apps. Content available, with most of what i want being free, could seriously rival my university library. As i said to the guy in the indian call centre the other day, i am not looking for games and apps for 'entertainment', where i can kick back with a beer and an awesome game app - i want access to business and news and reference info - the serious stuff. If i just wanted games, any phone would do.

That definitely is not true. But we will have to agree to disagree.
If someone gave me iphone for free (totally) I would take it otherwise I will wait for Sony Eicsson to make a PSP mobile phone (cant wait DROOOL).

I could be wrong, but if cuz of software/programming reasons, you cannot download the apps directly to phone, then might it be that even if downloaded via PC it still may not work? Did it work for you?
