I have been using generic brands for years but I WISH I could convince my best friend of this. She only uses Piriton and Nurofen. I keep telling her the generic stuff from Asda/Tesco is EXACTLY the same, but she's always incredulous and sticks with the brands as she feels they are safer!
The power of the mind is a great thing.
Scientists call it the Placebo effect. Its one of the best cures for many problems!0 -
Hi All,
This is my first time responding to a thread so sorry if I make a mistake.
I went to B & M bargains and found Beechams all in one for £1.00 and flu relief for £1.00 and the hot drinks also for £1.00. I wandered into the pundland store and also found that they were selling them for the same price. I picked some up knowing they were more expensive and when I went is Asda today i checked the Beechams all in one and they were £4.34. The Hot drinks were over £2 and the flu capsules were about £3.
I thought I had the wrong ones but when i checked i had definetly the same ones and even checked inside the packet to see if they were actually Beechams.
Think i might stock up on these before winter sets in.
Not often i feel likei get a bargain!:TSeptember 2017 Debt = £25330

You can do anything if you put your mind to it. x0 -
Boots actually invented Ibuprofen in the 1960s and sold it under the Nurofen brand until they sold it a few years back.

Would she believe the doctor or pharmacist if they told her the generic was the same as the branded?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Nurofen gels caps act quicker than normal tablets.
But that is because the capsule breaks down quicker and the gel gets into your bloodstream faster - not because they are Nurofen brand.
If you can get generic gel capsules, they will work just the same.
I haven't bought branded meds for years. Especially stuff that is really expensive like Canestan etc. ALWAYS go for Boots/chemists own rather than a named brandLiving with Lupus is like juggling with butterflies0 -

If you get presciptions most of the drugs given out on the NHS are cheap generic brands and you would trust that those work. You would be unlikely to get piriton on prescription they would give you chlorpheniramine to save the NHS money. They only give out branded products for drugs still under patent where generics cannot be produced yet.0 -

If the doctor specifies a brand on a prescription the brand must be supplied, even if a generic is available (qualified pharmacy technician!). This doesn't happen so much any more as GPs have budgets.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
I went to the pharmacy and asked if you could buy movalot cream over the counter.
I then said I didn't want the cream as I preferred the gel, and didn't want the movalot brand if they had anything cheaper.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

The other thing to look out for is the "Extra strength" ibuprofen (400mg) caps that you can get (from pharmacist counter) usually a total rip off as you can just take 2 of the 200mg ones that are MUCH cheaper.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0
