I agree with the ibuprofen, but I find that the own brand cold/flu tablets aren't effective with me, even Day/night nurse isn't effective. The only thing that helps me is Lemsip!
That's interesting as there was a news item recently that said the best treatment for colds/flu was hot squash - so I wonder if it's the hot water/lemony thing that works for you. Personally, I usually have a hot toddy - any excuse for a drop of whiskyWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

Not insulting the intelligence of anyone here. Please don't take offence, I just feel the need to re-iterate for anyone not aware.
Just ensure what version of "Neurofen" you're getting. There are several brands available now. The price difference MAY be because its "Neurofen Extra" or some other such labelling that contains another ingredient like Paracetamol. That then raises the possibility of accidental overdosing on (say) paracetamol.
Before anyone complains at me saying this, remember that it DOES happen.0 -
Yup, it's always worth asking the pharmacist if there's a generic alternative, whatever you're buying. Even some drugs that your doc will give you a prescription for can be bought over the counter for less if there's a generic over-the-counter version. ask away! Pharmacists are very highly trained individuals and are a fount of knowledge...ad you don't have to make an appointment to see one a week in advance either.Val.0

If your supermarket has a pharmacy, you can buy a box of 96 ibuprofen slightly cheaper than 6 individual packs of 16. You have to ask at the pharmacy.0

I find Body care reasonable for pain relief (can't take Ibuprofen, as pregnant). Or Tescos own brand.Cross Stitch Cafe Member No: 86 :j0

Me too! My mum swears by a glass of port when she's feeling run down0 -
generic brands (by law) have to be chemically identical to the cheap brands
200mg of branded ibuprofen is identical 200mg of unbranded ibuprofen
the branded stuff comes in pretty boxes, but that's about it
I have been using generic brands for years but I WISH I could convince my best friend of this. She only uses Piriton and Nurofen. I keep telling her the generic stuff from Asda/Tesco is EXACTLY the same, but she's always incredulous and sticks with the brands as she feels they are safer!0
