I noticed tonight an icon telling me that a network cable is unplugged--but i'm not on a network and my pc and b/band seem ok.
Where do I need to look to sort this out?I never mess with the network connections--well-not deliberately!-so I dont know where to start checking.
Any advice please.

It'll be the connection from your PC to your modem and/or router. If you are on bradband you are de facto on a network.

Just done some serious crawling about with a light and a lot of wriggling of cables and unless somethings busted it's all connected up as normal.
if i'd lost the connection, wouldn't that put me offline??0 -
Has this icon just appeared all of a sudden?
If its been there for ages its probably just there because you have an empty network port on the back of your pc.I'm better off without you.0 -

does your b/band modem plutg into the network port on your comp. If this was the only network port you have on your comp and you connect to the internert using a Network connection to your modem then this would kick you off the net
If it was USB or wireless then it would not kick you off
If you don't ask, you don't find out!0 -
Do you have a router or a modem, are you using wireless?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

unless you have just put a network card in it, it was probably always there, (possibly hidden with hide inactive icons), so nothing to worry about..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

to remove the icon so that the popup stops appearing you need to (if my memory serves me correct)
right click on the icon
go to properties
Near the bottom of the window there should be an option to 'show me when network is connected'
Sorry to be a bit vague, im @ work just now and dont use windows here
