your right, the guys that fit windscreens always heat the pads up before fitting the mirror....work permit granted!0 -
It was all so much easier when the mirror stalk screwed into the metal windscreen surround:rotfl::rotfl:.0

a similar thing happened to me and I tried various glues etc to get it to stay back on...they sell specific pads at car maintenance stores for a couple of quid - since I got this type of specific product, I haven't had any problems. But as others have suggested - clean the tow sides to be stuck together first.
Although it was a while ago, I have a feeling it was halfords I went to, but I'm sure any similar shops would stock the same.0 -
last time i had this i used araldite
it never fell off after that!!0 -
I could never get the sticky pads to work, the mirror was too heavy for them, ended up getting a replacement lightweight rearview mirror on a sucker. worked a treat.Out on blue six..

hi i have a similar problem if anyone could help.
I managed to knock the mirror off the stalk, the 'holder' with the stalk is still stuck to the windscreen its just the mirror that has come off.
I thought this would just push back on and have now cracked the screen, i didn't push that hard but there had been a small stone chip which is now the end of the crack.
So I don't know what to do now, do I get the mirror repaired before replacing screen or after? Can the mirror be repaired ie pushed back onto stalk?0 -

It does normally require quite a firm push to get it back on so it's not a surprise that this has happened with an already damaged screen. So I don't know what to do now, do I get the mirror repaired before replacing screen or after?
It'll be easier for you to get the windscreen fitter to do this. If for some reason they won't, it's not that difficult to push the mirror and stalk back together when it's OFF the screen, then use the information above to fix it back on to your new screen. (As long as the socket at the back of the mirror housing is not split or damaged) you can use a dab of washing up liquid to help ease it in if it's tight.
So: Remove old screen, remove mirror stalk from old screen, fit new screen, fit mirror and stalk back together, fit to new screen.0 -
Well I've just had the screen replaced and ask the fitter if he would re-fit the mirror and he said no problem it might be looser when re-fitted than it was as a factory fit, instead it broke! Completely shattered.
Fitter says I need to go to peugeot for a new mirror and surround and when I get it to pop into the branch and they will fit it for me, which it very nice of him but the branch is 30 miles from my home and over 10 miles from work, so popping over isn't really that easy. I simply don't have the courage to ring for the price of a new one at this moment in time. ETA First bit of good news on this £23 inc vat for a new one!! Thought it would have a 1 infront of that....
Considering how easily the mirror flew off the stalk its a bit fraustrating that its caused so much damage trying to get it back on!0
