Rearview mirror come off, cant get back on.
My rearview mirror came off, it did this before but it glued back on ok. I hardly touched it yesterday and it came off again.
Ive tried 4 different types of glue and it wont stay on! Doing my head in! I bought glass glue and it said not suitable for windscreens!!! !!!!!!!!!
I asked DH how they were put on originally and he says possibly with some sort of resin???? Anyone got any ideas how to make it stay on again?
I certainly aint taking it to the dealership who tried to rip me off when buying a new wiper arm! Quoted me £180 + VAT but when DH called to see about it quoted him £16 + VAT!!
Thanks, Ive bought a suction one as an emergency replacement if needed but would ideally like my one back on again.

Hi, There are specific pads which are used on the windscreens, I would either try and find a windscreen fitter which there are plenty in the phone books such as National windscreens etc, etc the pad is around 1" x 1" but you need to either run a razor blade to clear the old glue or white spirits etc and then stick the pad on. The pad looks and feels like a thick plastic.0

Indeed, the problem for the OP is going to be removing the glue that she has used, the new fixing needs a perfectly clean section of glass to adhere to.

You will find that the replacement sticky pads will stick much better if you warm the glass and the mirror base with a hair dryer first.0

Yup, you need to clean it properly else it'll never stick, and press it on and hold for ages, till you think your arm will drop off.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Yep - before applying the pads you have to make sure there is no residue left, and both surfaces need to be really clean (wipe with alcohol).0

Indeed, the eBay seller has given good advice on fitting. ( scroll down the listing ).0

Cleaning is the key as the others have said. I had this problem on an old Corsa and when I tried pads and glue it worked for a week before falling off. The absolute key is to clean and degrease. Once I did this it worked fine. The man without a signature.0

i remember this happening to me a few years ago and I carried the rearview mirror on my lap and raised it whenever I approached a roundabout to see what was behind me until I got a new one :rotfl:
