Virgin Media: Haggle down your costs.

BRILLIANT....

Just phoned NTL and without even haggling have got it down:

Was paying:
3-2-1 line rental: £10.50
BB 2mb: £24.99
Call Charges (all standard rate!!I know - stupid!!): £25 (mobile and national calls mostly)

Now paying:
£20.99 for line rental, talk unlimited 24 (with reduced mobile costs), 2mb BB (soon to be 4mb).:beer:

I've passed the word onto other ntl family and friends. What do people think could be done about someone who is with BT (paying all standard rates - so special packages) for purely phone and would like to go broadband as well as cut call costs (my mother in law!!) I guess it would be go to talk talk - but would there be any use in calling BT and saying you want to cut calls and go broadband - but can't afford them - and see what they come back with (or is the experience of BT that they will not budge?). Cheers!!

Just phoned them up and after a 30min wait i finally got through, they are very polite and understandign which was good, explained about talk talk and sky and tried to get them to match those deals or better.

Before:

1 x Family plus Sports and Movies - £52.50
4 x Additional Set top box rent - £60
1 x 1MB BB - £17.99

Total: £130.49

After:

1 x Family plus Sports and Movies - £42.50(6 months only)
4 x Additional Set top box rent - £45
1 x 2MB BB - £12.50

Total: £100 (Saving £30.49 a month)

Wikll have to see exactly what appears on the bill as i think i haeard him say the total was £107, but based on the prices he gave me it comes to £100.

Was this a good deal or should i have tried to get more and if so what?

phoned ntl this morning (2 minute wait)
spoke to a very pleasant and helpful chap
i said " if i mention talk talk i think you will know why i am calling"
he offered me 10MB @ 17.99
i said "i am looking at moneysavingexpert.com and have seen £10 quoted"

GUESS WHAT
I HAD 2MB @ £24.99
I NOW HAVE (when they bring the modem) 10MB @ £9.99

I was with telewest £34/month, starter tv, 2meg broadband and talk weekends

Thank you for all people above. I called telewest today and asked for cancellation. They matched the offer for £30.91/month, guaranteed for 12 months for 4 meg broadband, talk weekends and starter TV. The guy I talked with were really nice and he kept talking without pause like recorded. We've been talking for 30 minutes and 25 of them are his criticise about TalkTalk.

with telewest and the best thing about them is the broadband, have had it for 2 years with no problem. was at 2 meg and asked about the Talk Talk deal and was told they could not match it as Car phone warehouse are in dispute with BT about the price and things would change over the next couple of months.... long story short now on 4 meg for the same cost for 12 months. nice bloke on the other end of the phone and another person kept with telewest, i wonder if they have targets to meet on retension of phone calls. not a job i would want.
Good post and now another better value service for the cost of a free call!!

Would you say this was a good deal? I have been a customer with NTL for 8years now and i have never phoned up trying to get the price down until today.

I spoke to a very helpful lady on the NTL retention centre and I explained that I had been offered Talk Talk by a very aggressive salesman at carephone shed (true) and I was instantly offered the following .

10 meg broadband £17.50
Line rental £5.50
Talk unlimited 24 free

Total £22.50

Annual saving £510 WOW! PS it took about 50 mins to get through, but who cares at £510 per hour

I called that number, and was not given any options. Only my phone number was asked for.
As I was put on hold I heard a recorded message saying that I was on the home mover's queue.

Was paying nearly 40 quid plus calls for 2Mb BB
