help me please

hi this is my first time on here so don't know if im putting this in the right place.....
i looked at my statement for the last month on line this morning and they have told me that they are charging me £68 maintenance fees for a card payment...the card payment they are referring to was for my husbands credit card i put in enough money to cover the payment on the 30th of july the payment went threw and cleared on the 2nd of august.i have had confirmation of this...now on my bank statement it is saying that it did not clear till the 3rd of august and as another charge was coming out on the 3rd this put me overdrawn...so now they have said that instead of the £28 which they normally charge me for unplanned overdraft they are now charging me £68 can they do this as when the card was paid there was enough in the bank but when they took the maintenance fee there was not it just seems to me that they have put the card payment in a day late so they could charge me extra for it...
please would really like some advice on this

If you have confirmation in writing that the payment was done and dusted on the 2nd August then I'd copy that, send it to the bank with a letter of complaint.

Could the charges be for there not being enough in the account on the 3rd to cover the £28 maintenance charge? If so you should only get another £28 charge for that taking into unplanned overdraft.

When you say you paid money into the bank to cover the card payment to your husbands credit card did you pay the money into the bank by cash ?

  • That is what I was getting at as Amethyst has said. The guaranteed card payment fee already tell me how you paid out the money. The question whether you paid in a cheque into the account to cover the payment going out because whilst it will debit the account it is not cleared at the crediting bank. Furthermore, you should receive pre advice statements advising when charges go out. Do you have paperless statements?
