Got my £424 refund against the £471 paid out...
I'm not holding out for the full amount but I'm sure as hell going to kick up a fuss in the meantime

All's well that ends well...
I was sorry to learn from our refund department that your flights between Chicago and London have been cancelled, and that there is a discrepancy between the amount you paid and the amount that has been refunded back to you.
I've taken the opportunity to look into this issue, and it appears that the problem has arisen because payment was made for the flights with a UK gbp credit card, with flights originating in the US, and the fare quoted in
US dollars. I understand that our refund department have refunded you the
amount that was received by us from you, but your bank credit card has chosen to charge you an exchange fee. Because of this it appears you are out of pocket 46.95 gbp.
I can certainly understand your concern and frustration at this situation, especially, as you say, you didn't cancel the flights, but they were cancelled by Virgin Atlantic.
Although this charge was not made by us, I am sympathetic to your situation, and will be pleased to request a check be sent to you from our department for the discrepancy. In order to do this, can you please confirm to me if you would prefer the check to be in gbpounds or US dollars, and also can you please confirm the mailing address to send the check.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience you've been caused, and do hope that one day in the future we may welcome you on board Virgin Atlantic Airways.
Sincerely,0 -
