Am doing this for my son this Christmas and am going to give him the following in his Christmas Eve Hamper

    A pair of new PJs
    A no sew blanket
    A packet of biscuits
Maybe a special Santa plate + cup to leave for him
    Some hot chocolate sachets
A festive mug (although get a feeling it may be spider man for Benjamin!)
Maybe a few pennies (so they can get some milk and carrots for Santa and Rudolph) nice and fresh that way and it is his special job!
The Snowman or Santa Claus DVD/Video
Santa Key cos we don't have a chimney
    Some reindeer food
    The night before Christmas book
    A New Stocking
    Santa Stop Here sign

Then in his stocking this year

im hoping to do the 5 senses, so see, hear, touch, taste and smell.
    So He'll probably have
    a book
    a dvd
something crafty (liek small lego sets) or a load of stickers for a sticker book
    taste - chocolate coins/sweetie tube

but im stuck on smell so far - he's only 5 so smellies doesn't really work for him but might see about getting him some spiderman / starwars / ben 10 bubble bath. or failing that ill find him a character mug and make him some snowman soup - nothing better than the smell of hot chocolate.

  • thanks sethsgran i think i may try and make a couple of them for the kids and if they work out ok (look simple enough though) i will do some for my movie hampers im doing as gifts for neice, nephew and younger brother.
in fact i have a few fleeces upstairs from when the kids where in cots so i may give this a try this afternoon!

sammy-kaye18 im liking the idea of giving the kids their own job of buying the treats for santa, i may pinch this! im trying to think of smells suitable for a 5year old, but there isnt any coming to mind! ill keep thinking

when our kids were little a stocking always involved a satsuma (family tradition) and then things like a new bath sponge and some kids bubblebath - as they grew older this became body shop smellies and then Lush - fot the girls. When small there was a piece of Duplo in there - this developed into lego and Playmobil as they got older!

When they were growing up there was always some sort of puzzle in there too..and little stuff from ELC.

OH was distraught when stockings no longer involved Playmobil!

Stockings still very important even though kids now teenagers - anhd always topped with a cracker to pull on Christmas day! Over the years these have been themed - but now they are cheap ones from the pound shop!

    Oh forgot to add

this year we are doing the wrapping paper elves too.

On 30th November Ben is going to sit and write his Xmas list then we are off out shopping on 1st December. HE gets to choose decorations every year and this year Im going to let him choose his own wrapping paper. Then once we have put the tree up on 1st December - after we've gotten home from shopping, before bed he puts his Christmas wish list under the tree with the wrapping paper hes chosen and the magic elves will come and collect his Christmas list and wrapping paper. Then on Christmas eve they will leave a little piece of wrapping paper in his stocking too to let him know which presents to open on Xmas day.

Also very exciting in that if ive forgotten anything from his wish list i have a month to try and find it and it adds to the Xmas excitement for him too knowing the elves are about. Ive also gotten one of these

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fairy-Faerie-Door-NO-JUNK-MAIL_W0QQitemZ230366633719QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Collectables_MythicalCreatures_RL?hash=item35a2ebdef7&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_500wt_975

but i emailed the seller and she has a 'sssshhhh fairy sleeping' door which she said she can adapt to 'sssshhhh elf sleeping' instead so I will find a suitable skirting board on 1st December to attach that too as well and leave some elf footprints to it in the morning for Ben to find i think. Plus if the elf is 'sleeping' in the day he can cause all sorts of mischief at night and leave little notes for Ben.

Feel free. Ben is only 5 but loves the responsibility of it being his special job. His other job is to pick out the biscuits for santa, pour santa's milk and pick out two biscuits for Santa to eat. Also I have a shop next door to my flat where I happen to work and when we tell the girls in the shop what he's there for they all play along too.

sammie-kaye like the wrapping elves, but i bought that much paper last year i still have 3 each for the kids and theyre them really long ones too!
i think mine would be too young to get the elf sleeping door (although its a great idea to stick it against a skirting board!) but im on the look out for a elf to 'watch' over them throughout december and make sure they're being good! think ds may understand this, dd wont but she tends to go along with anything anyhow!

i think a cracker in the stocking came from my parents - we always had them. I have never put chocolate in stockings - i was obviously traumatised the year my little sis woke up...ate all her chocolate and threw up!

i insist on the satsumas....but the strange thing is they are always left! Kids open their stockings sitting on our bed...and the last thing i do is to move the satsumas before i go to bed!;)

I did theme the crackers for a while - girls would get Disney (Eeyore and Tigger~) and DS would get Simpsons. It's less important now so tree crackers from the Pound shop work well!:j

The Elf idea is fab except I could never find an elf so i put my own twist on it last year for Ben.

We also do our own spin of a magic elf with Ben but as i can never find elves it is usually a teddy of some sort, last year in a cancer charity shop I found a pretty floppy dog teddy who had a rubbish old bow on it so i replaced the bow with Christmas ribbon, decorated a box with wrapping paper and stuffed it with an old pillow and left it where our Xmas tree was going to be on December 1st with a special note from Mrs Claus which went something along the lines of

    Dear Benjamin,

Its Mrs Claus here! I expect you didnt think you would be hearing from me before Christmas. Well let me explain I have a bit of a problem and I hope you can help.

Things are so busy up here in the north pole, elves are running around, Santa is busy making sure his sleigh is working and his reindeer are nice and strong to pull it and I have been mending Santa's suit and making lots of cookies for all the hard working elves so they can get all the toys finished for the good boys and girls.

But as you can see I have sent you our poor little doggie Merry, she's awfully sad because we are all so busy and no one has time to play with her or do any fun Christmas things. Its her favourite time of year too.

So I looked through Santa's good boys list and I found your name at the top so I was hoping because you have been such a good boy and Santa tells me he always sees you at the parade every year and that you do lots of christmassy things if you would mind looking after he for me until Christmas Eve. I promise she wont be any trouble but she does like to eat lots of cookies if she's given the chance so make sure you keep the biscuits tin closed!

I;ll make sure Santa picks her up on Christmas Eve when he drops your presents off but just make sure she is snuggled up nicely in her bed each night for me and that she does lots of nice things.

I cant wait to hear her stories when she gets back!

    Lots of Snowflake kisses

    Mrs Claus.

This year however Merry has decided to stay here - basically I couldn't separate Ben from her! so need to find something new to do. His first job after finding Merry though was he had to put the Xmas tree up so think this year if he gets a magic friend at Christmas he can leave his wish list and then his magic friend will arrive the next day.
