That uses DDR2 667MHz SODIMMs. I assume you have 1GB already. Theyre quite cheap. A 2GB chip is sub £200

If you have no idea/never took apart a laptop/comp before they i'd go to a local computer specialist (not pc world/currys though) and ask them to upgrade it. It isn't an expensive upgrade and they shouldn't charge you much but even with upgrading the memory things can go wrong and you really need to know alittle about how the bios works and stuff plus making sure you get the right memory stick.
thats exactly what these small computer outlets are for really. £20-30 at most for the ram upgrade and no more than £50 total to do it in my reckoning.0 -
ok i think i'll do as you say

£50 for a 1 minute job. I'd rather not.
Very easy to do this remove the memory panel and replace the memory that YOU WILL NOT BUY AT PC WORLD and it is done.0 -

Most laptops have two memory slots, and if you have 1 GB of memory already installed this could have been done in two possible ways:- 1 x 1 GB memory card, leaving one available memory slot
- 2 x 512 MB memory cards, so there is no free memory slot.
In the second case you will have to remove at least one of the 512 MB cards.- If you remove one 512 MB memory card you could replace it with a 1 GB memory card, giving a total of 1½ GB of memory.
- If you remove both 512 MB memory cards you could replace them with two 1 GB memory cards, giving a total of 2 GB of memory.
With regard to obtaining replacement memory, I cannot find "e system 1212" - I presume you mean "EiSystem 1212"? Is this a "Currys special", because I cannot find it on the usual recommended memory supplier, Crucial.
I suspect you stand a very good chance of paying £lots more than you expected if you get Currys to upgrade the memory for you...0 -
Don't do anything until you have found out whether you have any free memory slots!

Which is what I have already said0 -
All of three seconds?...looks like a template to me!0

If you know what you're doing it's a 1 minute job with a very low chance of messing up.
If you don't but have some idea of what is in involved and read up, its a 15 minute job (once you get the parts) with still a very low chance of messing up.
If you don't know anything about how laptops work and are not comfortable with opening up a complex and yes delicate piece of electronics then I would still suggest going to a local computer shop.
Checking Ram slots, researching correct product, buying the memory, research, unscrew laptop, replace, ram testing check. Thats a few processes that for someone with little IT knowledge is still challenging.
Yes this is a money saving forum though and if you feel confident then follow the above advice but if you are not i'd go to a local specialist and ask for a quote. The ram would cost £20-£30 and as mentioned for a IT man would only take a minute so take the estimate from that.0
