Are Three lying to me?

Hi All,

I've had a Nokia 6230 on Three's £15 tariff for about 2 years. I only use about 150 mins and 50 texts a month so I was going to look around for a cheap £10/£15 sim only or basic Nokia - the o2 quidco cashback deal looks good. My workplace is in a dead spot in the middle of London so I need to get off Three anyway (Orange has the same problem).

When I called for my PAC yesterday they kept me on the phone for ages and did everything other than what I ask for. I'd already reported the dead spot and they have told be that their is nothing they can do so I had no interest in her checking my postcode etc. In the end I had to hang up (I was at work).

She also didn't understand the good deal I would get via quidco - when she wanted to price-match their deals. She insisted that the cashback was froma dealer and I might not get it.

I was told the following:

1: My existing phone is duel band which means it has problems picking up Three's reception. Nokia are aware of this so now supply Tri-band phones to Three. If I upgrade my phone, I won't have a problem. I thought the band was all to do with the country?

2: Three have reached an agreement with o2 and will start using their netwok (along with their own and Orange) in a couple of weeks time. I challenged her and said that I hadn't seen anything in the press. Apparently it hasn't been formally announced yet.

So, what do you think? I'm going to phone back to get my PAC and I need to be prepared!

Marc

If you want the PAC code, try sending them email - that should ease things a bit, if you dont get response within 24 hours - then call them and just ask straight "Cancellations please!".

The business with the phone being dual band is probably true but don't know whether they are going to use O2 network or not - but if they are telling you that, most likely true (sounds like too big a lie if they were lying).

    Do what my daughter did:

Call them, ask for your pac number...repeat this is why you are calling, they will ask you why you want to leave, you do not have to give a reason, they will ask you again if you're getting a better deal, you don not have to give an example....if they pursue and want an answer, tell them your reception and their customer service is carp...if they ask again about a deal you have been offered elsewhere, tell them Vodafone have offered you new phone, 600 mins and unlimited txts and internet for £15 per mont....or do what my daughter did...after asking for her pac code twice!

Ask to speak to a supervisor and REPEAT you want your PAC code, they can send it to you via txt in about 60 seconds....the only good thing about phoning them is you will get the normal blurb about "your pac code is only valid for 30 days" ...but they also tell you when your contract is up to (monthly date )...so...stick to your guns...get your PAC code....and leave....seeemples

dual and tri bands relate to the contries they will work in. It's 3g and 2g that will affect your signal.
Three used to use o2 as a second carrier but switched to orange. When i left them 5 months ago they were on about switching off the last bits of o2 coverage so that doesn't sound right to me.
They are notorious for lying to customers.
:p It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

I had a similar conversation last week with Three about cancelling my contract. I stuck to my decision and just kept asking for the PAC code regardless of how much they kept saying I was making a mistake.

They told me that my phone was old, hence why I wasn't getting a good reception at home. They said they would give me a new phone with upgraded software that would mean my reception would be fine. Also, when I said that I didn't want a new phone, he had the cheek to ask how I was able to send msgs and call people, when I said I did this out and about, he said 'well you can do that, you don't need reception at home'. I just kept saying I wasn't interested and I wanted my PAC code. I wasn't interested in a bartering game to negotiate a good deal, I just wanted out!

Personally I think everything he said was rubbish and unless I see it in writing, its a load of rubbish!

I called 3, having changed my mind on upgrading my contract. When I first upgraded, I got told my phone would be delivered on the 19th. The next day when I rang, a week earlier from the date I got told the phone would be delivered, I got told the phone was actually being delivered that day, and to ring back after delivery had been attempted. No attempt had been made so I rang back to cancel. I was waiting forever on the phone, told that my phone wasn't even ready for delivery... but eventually got my pac code sent out. You just have to be firm... tell them you want it, because you don't want to be billed again, if the time period runs over.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
