Can anyone recommend any freeware CD/DVD burning software? Preferably 'lite' and not bloated like Nero or Roxio. Also, it must support Windows 2000 and be a general purpose data file burner, not specific to music files etc.

    Thanks, Chippy

http://www.cdburnerproxp.se/ (although their website seems to be down?)

There's also ImgBurn, but that only burns images (iso's etc...) as far as I know. It's basically a step on from the burning functionality DVD Decrypter has.

Nero v6.6 is still the best for me. v7 is horribly bloated and problematic, but v6.6 is ok and very stable. I only use the Burning Rom part of the application, it is annoying that it installs so many other wizards, wav editors etc... without giving the choice to.

I've recently come across this open source online library http://www.archive.org/ I haven't l looked at the software section yet, as my interest at the moment, is in the music files, but the site claims to have 55billion pages in total & is a collection of open source files of all sorts.

If, of course, you exclude Popfile which uses much the same technology and algorithms

If you want to find opinions on the best freeware in various categories, the best freeware utilities is always a good site to visit. Someone posted it a while back in this forum, and I've found it very useful
