First Direct

Hi,

My wife recent applied for First Direct e-savings account and we received a ketter today saying that it has been declined.

I'm pretty sure it has been declined becuase she cannot speak English. Is this right to do? How can I take this matter further?

Thanks
SM

I`m extremely friendly today as I´m in Hanover (just waiting for my flight home in the lounge) and have stuffed my face with bratwurst all day!

As for yesterday. I just dont like it when people have chips on their shoulders.

I used to work dor dirst direct and they don't decline people for being unable to speak English. If they are not on the electoral register or have poor credit history or no credit history then they will.

Hi Msaquib - you definately need to get your wife onto the electoral register, regardless of savings accounts.

Once she is on there apply for a savings account about 6-8 weeks afterwards just in case it takes time. First Direct's e-savings account is not the best deal out there - see the Savings Forum for more information about the best deals. The savings account will be easy to get as it involves no debt, but they still need to check her ID on a credit file with Experian or Equifax, and if on those files she is not registered on the electoral register this will stop her getting an account.

Another thing than can affect her credit for bank accounts or credit cards for example, is how long she has been at her current address and how often she has moved, whether she has a job etc. It will take time for this to all settle down.

Good luck and do use this MSE website to find out the best deals and more information on hos she can improve her credit score. Remember that there are different 'forums' for different subjects though, as this helps other people help you better.
