Hi, does anyone have a spare cd rom for Windows 2000 professional os? I have an old IBM Thinkpad T20 which has been working ok until I tried to upgrade some memory. Now when I turn on the laptop it will not boot, has an error message stating that files are missing \winnt\system32\config\system. It suggests I press F8 and install cdrom to do a repair. Problem is I don't have the cd and don't know anyone who still uses this os to get a copy. I hope someone can assist me.

You have a PM.0

missing or corrupt \winnt\system32\config\system refers to a problem with one or more registry hives being corrupt. The M$ knowledge base has a very good article on how to recover from this.
I know that that doesn't help with the missing CD, but I thought I'd just stick my 2p worth in...

Hi, have now reinstalled windows 2000 professional, thanks to some great help & advice from you good folk. A repair did not work so I had to do a full restore which resulted in me losing all data and drivers. I now have a further problem. I can't get onto the internet to download drivers because windows does not have a network adaptor although it does have a working PCMCIA adaptor working (is this the same as network adaptor)? Also the following items under unknown devices have yellow question marks indicating no drivers installed:-
Microsoft ACPI Embedded controller
Video controller (VGA compatible)
Also the picture on the screen looks a bit frosty.
Any ideas?0 -
Thanks Donnie, can I save them to a disc or usb dongle on another pc?0

It's digital, save on any device you want to inc. but not limited to:- floppy, iPod , memory stick, USB, CD, DVD, backup tape, iomega zip disc, mobile phone.0
