I don't want to put you off - but be VERY careful when buying a Vauxhall, I've found if I've had a problem i've been farted around so long until it was out of warranty then they found it had a million problems.
They're generally very unhelpful as a whole unless they're getting your money!
Stuff like driving my car for a week, on my petrol, then refusing to put any back in. Like I said, if I give them the car with a fiver petrol in what would they have done?!
!!!!ing about with courtesy cars, saying I cant have one even though my warranty did, because I didn't 'book' one, but even if I did book one, then I wasn't guaranteed one! :S
If they're all booked surely they know how many they'd have?!!!
When I had an engine management problem they basically called me a liar.

I really wouldn't go back to them!

Thats some very good advice also thank you, do you think this was an icolate insodent or have you heard other stories? ive not set my heart on an Astra, but to be honest I think it would suit me and my needs

    I'd never have another Vauxhall.

Thats some very useful advice, thank you, but im 24 and am thinking maybe a 1.9 is too much (insurance wise), I was originally thinking of Astra type, maybe a budget up to £9,000

my oh bought a 2.2 diesel avensis when he was 23. the insurance for the first year was 800 (it was always going to be expensive whatever car he bought. an mg was nearly 2K to insure) down to £700 for his next years insurance. we get very decent mpg out of it and its so comfy to drive, its not that powerful either well it doesnt feel it to me.
Debt free 3 years early :j
Savings for house deposit - very healthy

Cash back earnt so far £14.57

Oh,and under no circumstances buy a car from Arnold Clark. I could literally write a book about those cowboys. They are my number one most detested company.

  • Just an update on this thread, I just brought a 56 Astra 1.6i SXI 3 door hatch, black, absolutly love it, 17,000 miles for £7950 could of got a lot off but im so rubbish at haggling! really happy and it seems from looking about that I got a good deal.

Only problem is I havent checked with my insurance company yet (I got 7 days free) so I dread to think how much my new insurance will be :( my last quote (paid out right) for a 1.2 52 clio was £280......any guesses for my new quote?

Thats some good advise, I must admit, I had a look at a corsa, but I dont know, its just theres something thats missing from the Corsa, it maybe because i like the astras a lot and im maybe a bit stuck up and just dont like the name, when you think of a corsa you think of a bloody common nasty car, but the newer ones are nice I have to admit

My girlfriend has a Corsa and it is surprisingly good. Feels well made so far the only faults I can find with it are the glovebox lid is rubbish and wont sit flush with the dash.

The 1.2 Litre engine also has to be punished to get any performance out of it. I almost admire anyone who can get any speed out of the things because it is just too much effort for me.

You would also has to be bark raving mad to pay anywhere near the list price for the thing.

Drove her sisters Astra and I would much rather have that anyday. Bigger, more powerful and better looking.

The thing missing from the Corsa is that it looks like a Baby Astra.
